Sponsored by the Telluride Council for the Arts and Humanities, the survey of Telluride's fine art scene known as the First Thursday Art Walk ends with a bang for the winter season on April Fool's Day, Thursday, April 1. Locals and guests are invited to visit galleries, studios, arts organizations, even a few eateries to check out the abundant talent. Retail outlets also stay open late until 8 p.m.

Free Art Walk brochures, available at any participating venue (plus hotels and coffee shops) offer a self-guided map of the participating establishments.

A survey of April events is as follows:

Tellurideinside-5 It's interesting to see ourselves through different eyes from time to time. Telluride Inside... and Out recently began corresponding with Mark Warner, owner and webmaster of Colorado Ski Authority. Mark was in the Telluride area a few weeks ago and offered to share some of his images and observations with TIO. I personally liked this photo of the ski area taken from the road to the Telluride airport. I often stop at the same spot to take in this panorama.

Tellurideinside-2 Mark writes: You see a lot of old mining equipment around this part of Colorado. As I was approaching the parking garage at Telluride I saw some tracks above me and thought nothing of it. A few seconds later I noticed a few people waiting at the end of the tracks so I knew that these weren't just some old mining car tracks. If you look at the photo below you will see what I found. This is a private lift to some of the condos located near the Mountain Village. This lift turns the corner and heads up a steep incline to bring owners and guests back to their ski homes. (the photo is of the Tristant Cross Lift which serves Tristant and Bear Creek Lodge, and terminates on the Village Bypass ski run in the Mountain Village)

Our friend Ted Hoff  shares weekly videos with dog training tips, training sessions, or just views of a dog's life at Cottonwood Ranch and Kennel. This week Ted's young yellow Lab puppy, Drake, is getting training in retrieving. Looks like fun, and that's...

A day at the office Phillip Brooks with Dad Telluride is justly known for it's "interesting" skiing and I certainly enjoy that aspect of the mountain. Perhaps less well-known is the fact that Telluride is also a friendly, family, meet friends...

Copout_smallposter Shutterisland_smallposter2 "Lightning Thief" returns for two more nights at Telluride's Nugget Theatre, along with "Shutter Island" and "Cop Out" as the movies for the week of March 26-April Fools Day.

In "Lightning Thief" (rated PG) a kid who just happens to be the son of Zeus and a mortal woman of today, is accused of stealing Zeus' lightning bolt. Sounds like an adventure.

Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Kingsley, Max von Sydow, Film Noir: these may be all you need to know to convince you to go see "Shutter Island" (rated R). A child murderer is missing from the fortress-like prison for the criminally insane. Are you intrigued yet?

"Cop Out" (rated R) is a cop buddy movie with Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan. The plot concerns the theft of a valuable baseball trading card. Your guess is as good as mine.

Check the Nugget website for trailers and review. Read below for showtimes.

On Sunday, March 21,the Telluride Gallery of Fine Art was the setting for Telluride's celebration of winning the Governor's Arts Award. The event was an opportunity for the Telluride community to pat itself on the back for its support for the arts. TGFA's Will Thompson was the genial host.

Telluride had previously been a runner-up for this award, and by all accounts, was surprised to have been selected co-winner with Creede, CO this year. Telluride Mayor, Stu Fraser unveiled the prize, a mixed-media artwork by Gayle Gerson, Grand Junction artist.

When we at Telluride Inside... and Out write about skiing, we're usually writing close to home here in Telluride. Last weekend the whole family of daughter, Kjerstin Klein (Kjerstin and sister Kimm Viebrock double as TIO's back office magicians) were on the mountain at Seven Springs in western Pennsylvania for a local race series.

Mom and Dad (Greg Klein) brought home trophies in their races, brother Dylan Klein (age 11) spent the day in the rain as a gatekeeper, and 7-year old Anna managed a third place finish in the GS, and an amazing First in bumps.

For the past several weeks we have watched Ted Hoff of Cottonwood Ranch and Kennel work with his dogs, showing us the training techniques he uses to keep the dogs sharp and interested. Ted emphasizes that working breeds need a job to do....
