Expendables_poster Eat-Pray-Love--Movie-Poster Wow, it was a wild weekend in Telluride. I thought it was a great lineup for Telluride Film Festival. We saw some great stuff, and put our feelings on TIO for all to see.

This week, September 10-16, the Nugget Theatre is back to normal, showing two movies: "Eat, Pray, Love" (PG13) and "The Expendables" (Rated R).

Julia Roberts, as Elizabeth Gilbert, in "Eat, Pray, Love" does the eating in Italy, the praying in India, and finds love in Bali. Hey, we  all have to find ourselves.

OK, it's a Sylvester Stallone movie, this time set in a corrupt Latin America country, with a ruthless band of mercenaries whose mission is to overthrow the dictator. Maybe not Shakespeare, but...

Telluride Adaptive Sports Program has two major fundraisers each year: "Going Country at the Opera" in the Winter, and "The Bob Miller Golf Classic" in the Summer. The Golf Classic, now in its twelfth year, is Thursday, September 16, 2010. You can participate...

IMGP1477 With the excitement over the 37th Annual Telluride Film Festival, and the work in covering the event on Telluride Inside... and Out, it's easy to overlook the "old Show" going on in the high country, as it has for millenia.

This morning I needed to get a little outdoors before burying my face in my computer. An easy ride down the bike path toward Telluride is Mill Creek Road, which works my legs and lungs whether I run it or ride my mountain bike. Today it was the bike. The reward for the effort is a series of vistas, including several angles on the Wilson Range, and a peaceful overlook across the San Miguel Valley and the town of Telluride, looking much quieter from my perch than within the town.

The Schedule for Telluride's Nugget Theatre for September 3-9 is all about the Telluride Film Festival. The Film Festival website will have the program. See you next week, or at a Telluride Film Festival screening....

The seventh annual Mountains to the Desert bike ride is set for Saturday, September 25, 2010. Riders can start from Telluride or Norwood, and there are two options for routing from each start. Early registration is $100, fee increases to $125 on September 1....

The Ah Haa School for the Arts in Telluride has classes for all ages, on any number of subjects. Along with our enthusiastic fellow students, Telluride Inside... and Out was getting smart about making bread (no, not an investing class) at the home of Larry and Sally Simpson on Saturday, August 28.

Our "professors" were Carole and Milt Quam, long-time breadmakers from California. As Milt puts it, "Carole and I regard ourselves as 'serious home bakers'.  We’ve been baking seriously for the last 15 or so years. Originally we identified with a group of whole grain bakers, most doing their baking in wood-fired ovens. There were some very talented bakers, as well as oven builders in that group."

Scottpilgrim_smallposter It's a short week at the Nugget Theatre in Telluride: the Nugget will be closed Tuesday, August 31-Thursday, September 2, to get ready for the Telluride Film Festival.

From Friday to Monday, the two movies are "Inception", held over, and "Scott Pilgrim".

"Inception" (PG13) stars Leonardo DiCaprio, who must plant ideas in someone's head as opposed to stealing someone else's ideas. And the target must believe the ideas to be his own. Lost yet?

"Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" (PG13) might be described as "life as video game" or possibly the opposite. Many foes must be vanquished in order to win the woman of his dreams. Could be fun.

IMGP1420Friday afternoon in Telluride, Tim Erdman called: Did we want to go mushroom hunting with him Saturday morning? Robert Allen and Susie Coit would be joining us as well. We had never hunted with Tim but enjoy his company, so why not. Turns out he is as addicted to the hunt as we are, so even when we all agreed it was well past time for lunch, we couldn't resist adding more mushrooms to an already impressive stash.

The Telluride Mushroom Festival takes place next weekend, so we got a bit of a jump on the event. When the word goes out in Telluride that boletes are everywhere, it's time to be in the hills.
