Ted Hoff of Cottonwood Ranch and Kennel had a birthday party a few weeks ago. While Ted's birthday was the reason for the get-together, Drake, the Hoffs' new yellow Labrador puppy, was the star of the evening. All the women there couldn't keep...

As Telluride Inside... and Out completes its first full year, we thought it might be appropriate to take a look back at 2009. We traveled outside Telluride from time to time, and covered some of those trips, but this article is just about one memorable year in the San Miguel Valley.

This is probably a good time to provide a "road map" to those of you who may be new to Telluride Inside... and Out. "How do I navigate this website?"

It snowed in Telluride for my birthday. Snowed hard, and kept it up all day. After a dry spell, that's a good thing.Another good thing?  When one is pleasantly surpised by the generosity (particularly the generosity of spirit) of others. The James family lives...

IMG_8277 The valley floor in Telluride: it's not just for prairie dogs anymore. The Telluride Nordic Association now grooms and maintains an elaborate trail system on the valley floor, including seasonal river crossings at various points to access the western end of the valley near Lawson Hill.

IMGP0774 Telluride Adaptive Sports Program (TASP) has moved into its new space in the Capella complex in the Mountain Village. To celebrate its new location, TASP will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, December 29. The facility will be open to the public from 3:30-5:30 pm, with appetizers and beverages.

After years of tight quarters, TASP is enjoying some breathing room. There are separate spaces for clients, instructors and staff, with cubbies for the clients and lockers and cubbies for the instructors. In addition, the location right on the Meadows Run means that riders can access the snow right out the door. No more hefting equipment 100 yards out to Lift 4, or hiking students up the hill to reach the Meadows.

Ted Hoff of Cottonwood Ranch and Kennel shows us a training session with his young female Labrador retriever, Mae. Watch how Mae maintains her attention on Ted, in order to get the job done. Good girl, Mae. Ted really makes it...

425.princess.frog.010709 Theblindside_smallposter-1 Telluride's Nugget Theatre is showing two films for the week of December 25-31.

"Blind Side" tells the story of Michael Oher, who is rescued from homelessness by a wealthy Memphis couple, and goes on to be a football star. This feel-good movie is rated PG-13.

Hard-working Tania, in Disney's old-fashioned animation, "The Princess and the Frog" is a fitting role model in our self-absorbed age. The old classic is set in New Orleans, and takes a few liberties with the original. The movie is a Golden Globe nominee for Best Animated Feature.

See below for showtimes, and see the Nugget website for trailers and reviews.

Neil Armstrong

Thursday night, December 17, was a busy night in Telluride. The snowboard World Cup is in town and the Peaks Resort hosted a big party for guests and locals; the Telluride Historical Museum showed the recently completed "We Skied It", featuring Senior Mahoney; artist Susan Sales had a wonderful opening at the Telluride Gallery of Fine Art.

Meanwhile, a large audience heard astronaut Neil Armstrong speak about the changes at the Telluride Airport; John Horn, talking about the corporate thinking that went into the original planning; Board Chairman (and former Telluride mayor) John Micetic telling how it all got done. But it was vice chairman Ed Roufa who brought down the house, presenting John with a plaque which documented the new name for the airport: Telluride Regional Airport at Micetic Field
