I don't know about you, but I think of bulldogs as being a bit stolid, doing things their own way. Ted Hoff of Cottonwood Ranch and Kennel tailors his training to the breed and the individual personality of the dog, but the same general...

Matthew, breakfast Susan and I usually leave Telluride in early September for family visits. This year we started in New Jersey to be with Susan's parents for 1 1/2 weeks, then to Bellevue, Washington for time with Kid 1, Kimm Viebrock and family.

Our Fall visit in Bellevue often coincides with Grandson Matthew's birthday, at least sometime around the day. With our far-flung and busy family, it's rather amazing that over the years we have managed to maintain fairly regular in-person time together.

Still, it comes as a bit of a surprise to find Matthew all grown up. It seems like yesterday I held him in a brief reprieve from his isolette- he was a tiny preemie. And this year he started high school! Tonight we'll watch him playing trumpet in the Bellevue High School marching band at their home football game.

Susan and I are on the road again. That means that Gina the Dog is on vacation at Cottonwood Ranch and Kennel. I no longer wonder why she has to sleep for a few days when she gets home from "Uncle Ted's." I've seen...

In August I was in Washington State to celebrate the 100th birthday of my former father-in-law. I arrived the day before the big occasion and took the time to check out an airplane that interests me in Yakima, and to catch up with family on the East side of the mountains.

I stayed overnight with my brother Denny and family, drank a few beers and told some of the old lies. The next morning I visited with two of my aunts before heading back to the coast.

Empire State When I question why Susan and I continue to toil away on Telluride Inside... and Out, along comes something like this: three of our favorite poets/writers gave us three very different, but all beautiful, poems to honor memory of the events of September 11, 2001.

9/11/2001 holds a special place in our personal memories. Though we did not lose loved ones in the tragedy, there was an almost dime-novel aspect in the way we and ours experienced the horrors of that day.

The Telluride Blues and Brews Festival, #18 if you're counting, hits town on the weekend of September 16-18, 2011. Blues & Brews is the last big event of the Summer in Telluride. The argument could be made it is also one of the first...

When training dogs, Ted Hoff of Cottonwood Ranch and Kennel pays a lot of attention to the individual dog: What is the energy level, how old, what is the attention span, etc. Taz is a German Shorthair Pointer, and in the video we can...

Telluride Inside ... and Out was pleased to be in the audience for the first screening of Alexander Payne's "The Descendants" on Friday afternoon of the Telluride Film Festival.  Scheduling dictated waiting until Sunday morning to enjoy the George Clooney tribute.

Check out the video for a sense of Todd McCarthy's interview with George, director Alexander Payne and actress Shailene Woodley after the showing of the movie.
