My office window looks east, toward Telluride and the end of the upper San Miguel canyon. Cynthia Zehm photographs beautiful sunsets and storms over the La Sal range. I get sunrises and afternoon rainbows and alpenglow. I believe we are both lucky. This...

Hangover Transformersrevengeofthefallen_teaser2 The Nugget Theatre in Telluride will show "The Hangover" and "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" for the week of Friday, July 31- Thursday, August 6.

"The Hangover" is a Vegas bachelor party with a missing groom, a baby in a closet, etc. Rated R for the usual reasons. Go for entertainment, not the message.

My grandkids introduced me to Transformers years ago. But they had to manipulate the robots to change them into their various permutations. In "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" the transitions happen in real time. Expect to see a lot of twisted metal as robots war against robots. Your kids can explain it all to you. Rated PG for violence, sexual situations and language.

See the Nugget website for trailers and reviews. Showtimes are listed below.

IMG_4147 The Big Green Bus was on Main Street, Telluride for a few hours on Monday, July 27. Did you see it? The Bus is decked out with sustainable bamboo flooring, recycled glass counters, solar panels on the top to feed the systems on board, and its diesel engine has been modified to run on used cooking oil, filtered enough to keep the oil moving through the engine.

The mission of the Big Green Bus is to show how environmentally sound practices can positively impact our carbon footprint, and to encourage people to think about innovative solutions to climate change.

In Telluride one is likely to see all styles of walking sticks: high tech ones by Leki, a broken branch picked up off the ground, or a fine piece of wood, maybe even laminated slices of hardwood carefully glued, sanded, finished. My stick (though...

There are people whose absence is difficult or impossible to imagine. I have known Jack Carey most of the time I have been in Telluride. We are not  close friends, the kind who can share stories of adventures, dinners together, so I'll leave those...
