24 Mar Telluride celebrates winning Governor’s Arts Award
On Sunday, March 21,the Telluride Gallery of Fine Art was the setting for Telluride's celebration of winning the Governor's Arts Award. The event was an opportunity for the Telluride community to pat itself on the back for its support for the arts. TGFA's Will Thompson was the genial host.
Telluride had previously been a runner-up for this award, and by all accounts, was surprised to have been selected co-winner with Creede, CO this year. Telluride Mayor, Stu Fraser unveiled the prize, a mixed-media artwork by Gayle Gerson, Grand Junction artist.
Those present for the well-attended event were treated to snacks, wine from Wine Mine, and comments by representatives of many of the arts organizations from this community, including TCAH, the Ah Haa School for the Arts, Wilkinson Public Library, KOTO, the Telluride Repertory Theatre, SquidShow Theatre, Telluride Historical Museum, and the Telluride Choral Society.
Additional entertainment was provided by Telluride's wonderful a cappella group, Heartbeat, along with poetry by Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer, who also sang with Heartbeat.
