Sponsored by the Telluride Council for the Arts and Humanities, the survey of Telluride's fine art scene known as the First Thursday Art Walk ends with a bang for the winter season on April Fool's Day, Thursday, April 1. Locals and guests are invited to visit galleries, studios, arts organizations, even a few eateries to check out the abundant talent. Retail outlets also stay open late until 8 p.m.

Free Art Walk brochures, available at any participating venue (plus hotels and coffee shops) offer a self-guided map of the participating establishments.

A survey of April events is as follows:

CIMG7288 Telluride's The New Community Coalition's Green Building Roundtable continues with the third talk in the series. "The Evolution of Sustainability in an Independent Outdoor Company" focuses on the story of Osprey – "Pack Your Passion and Go" – and the company's green team. The event takes place  Friday, April 2, 8:30 – 9: 30 a.m. upstairs at the award-winning Wilkinson Public Library. The speaker is Gareth Martins, Director of Marketing.

Last November, Telluride Inside... and Out sponsor/contributor Erik Dalton of Jagged Edge was all hopped up about a new ski/snowboard backpack for the winter season he believed to be the perfect travel companion on all sort of outdoor adventures: the Kode series from Osprey could do everything but walk your dog.

Summer_10 All right. I hear you. Telluride is still high on powder since last Friday's mega dump, a rite of Spring in this part of the world, and we are talking summer?

But Rachel Loomis Lee, executive director of the Ah Haa School for the Arts, is looking through her poles into the future. Her summer catalog now put to bed, Festival season is just around the corner.

Summer at Ah Haa means exciting exhibitions starting in June with shows for Jared David Paul and Bill Krutzmann.

No joke. But lots of fun.

AprilFoolsPoster Remember Jerry Lewis? In an over-the-top, no-holds-barred attempt to win the Telluride Foundation's Text-to-Give contest by a landslide, Telluride's SquidShow Theatre troupe hosts a "Squidstravanganza,"  a variety show/telethon modeled on the meastro's kitschey fundraising marathons.

Highlights of the evening include "Best of the "Squids": song, dance, burlesque, comedy. The event, hosted by Squid founder Sasha Cuciniello and partner in crime Colin Sullivan (who moonlights as the Ah Haa School for the Arts curriculum development director), takes place April Fool's Day, 9:30 p.m., at Telluride's The Llama (corner of Colorado & Pine).

ExtraMoistBalm_pr Part time Telluride local, beauty expert/entrpreneur Bobbi Brown started a makeup revolution in 1991 with just a handful of lipsticks and a simple notion: “Women want to look and feel like themselves, only prettier and more confident.”

Bobbi told Telluride Inside... and Out years ago she thinks all women are beautiful, regardless of age, race, shape or size. Bobbi's product philosophy can be summed up in a few words: make-up that is super-wearable and easy to apply, and products that enhance a woman's God-given gifts.

Tellurideinside-5 It's interesting to see ourselves through different eyes from time to time. Telluride Inside... and Out recently began corresponding with Mark Warner, owner and webmaster of Colorado Ski Authority. Mark was in the Telluride area a few weeks ago and offered to share some of his images and observations with TIO. I personally liked this photo of the ski area taken from the road to the Telluride airport. I often stop at the same spot to take in this panorama.

Tellurideinside-2 Mark writes: You see a lot of old mining equipment around this part of Colorado. As I was approaching the parking garage at Telluride I saw some tracks above me and thought nothing of it. A few seconds later I noticed a few people waiting at the end of the tracks so I knew that these weren't just some old mining car tracks. If you look at the photo below you will see what I found. This is a private lift to some of the condos located near the Mountain Village. This lift turns the corner and heads up a steep incline to bring owners and guests back to their ski homes. (the photo is of the Tristant Cross Lift which serves Tristant and Bear Creek Lodge, and terminates on the Village Bypass ski run in the Mountain Village)

The Town of Mountain Village, Telluride's sister city, does more than pay lip service to the notion of democracy. It puts words into action, money where its mouth is, in an annual survey. The results of  the 2010 survey, once tabulated, go straight to the bottom line: the findings are applied to the 2011 budget process, including general business and marketing decisions, and used to improve day-to-day operations.

Surveys, about 1,400 in all, were mailed on March 16. Questions were designed to probe the community’s perceptions and attitudes regarding a number of Town-related topics such as quality of life, town services, planning and economic development, and expenditure patterns.

A day at the office Phillip Brooks with Dad Telluride is justly known for it's "interesting" skiing and I certainly enjoy that aspect of the mountain. Perhaps less well-known is the fact that Telluride is also a friendly, family, meet friends...

In line with its mission to spearhead green initiatives in the Telluride region, The New Community Coalition hosts the second in a series of integrated design workshops with a sustainable building focus."Systems Thinking of Building Design" takes place Friday, March 26, 2010, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the award-winning Wilkinson Public Library, 100 West Pacific Avenue.

Systems thinking, integrated design, dynamic modeling, sustainable building design, Building Information Modeling (BIM)... What do these terms mean? How would you apply them to your professional role in building design? How would interested non-professionals integrate these concepts into their lives?

On Sunday, March 21,the Telluride Gallery of Fine Art was the setting for Telluride's celebration of winning the Governor's Arts Award. The event was an opportunity for the Telluride community to pat itself on the back for its support for the arts. TGFA's Will Thompson was the genial host.

Telluride had previously been a runner-up for this award, and by all accounts, was surprised to have been selected co-winner with Creede, CO this year. Telluride Mayor, Stu Fraser unveiled the prize, a mixed-media artwork by Gayle Gerson, Grand Junction artist.
