Telluride Inside... and Out is in Bellevue, Washington, strategising and getting technical issues solved. Daughter Kimm Viebrock is listed as "head geek" on our organization list, so TIO has spent the better part of the past week with faces buried in our computers. We have been working hard during the days, but there has also been time to enjoy family.

Grandson Matthew Nesteroff had a busy weekend: it began with a jazz band contest on Friday morning. Matthew is in the trumpet section of the Chinook Middle School band, and this was our first chance to hear him play in concert. We enjoyed the opportunity, and the band sounded great. For Matthew, that was just the beginning. In addition he was an "Evil Eel" in the Bellevue Youth Theatre production of "The Little Mermaid." We went Friday evening, and once again were proud of our boy's artistic abilities. The cast played to full houses for three more performances: a matinee and an evening show on Saturday, and a matinee on Sunday.

_DSC0133 It’s nice to get out of the Telluride region for a bit during off-season if circumstances allow. Our family +1 managed to accomplish a whirlwind tour of colleges in the Pacific Northwest. Daughter Kelsey is a junior, and it was a great opportunity to see new country as she considers where to launch the next phase of her life after graduation next year.

Colleges were many and great, but the most fun for me was staying at the Out 'n’ About Treehouse Treesort just outside of Cave Juntion, Oregon. If you ever played MYST and enjoyed the treehouse world or coveted a treehouse of your own as a kid, you would love this place.

The 32nd annual Mountainfilm in Telluride Festival is scheduled this year May 28 – 31. The event will feature a rich mix of special guest presenters drawn from a wide spectrum of experience and expertise: adventurers, artists, activists and an ambassador.

“Mountainfilm is about so many things:  climbing, mountaineering, world cultures, the environment, art, extreme sports,  social justice and foreign policy,” said Festival director David Holbrooke. “One of the things that makes Mountainfilm so unique and exciting is that we attract interesting people from all of those worlds. And the chemistry between them, and with our audiences, is just amazing. Despite the range of their fields and backgrounds, they all seem to complement and inspire one another. Our films are great. But our guests are what really set us apart.”

Telluride local and yoga instructor Annie Clark joins certified Pilates instructor Lauren Ferioli, founder of ReSource Pilates & Yoga Retreat. The restorative getaway takes place May 1 – May 8, 2010, in Maya Tulum Spa & Resort in Mexico, a gorgeous resort on the Caribbean Sea with pristine white sand beaches. DSCN1658 DSCN1657 If your off season plans take you through the Denver Airport, pray that your plane is delayed (slightly) so that you’ll have time to go check out the current exhibit at the Ansbacher Hall, located on the walkway between the A concourse and the main terminal. Two local artists, Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer and Meredith Nemirov, are featured in 33 IDEAS!, an exhibit showcasing innovative artists and writers who have investigated land and social issues in a variety of mediums. With an artistic and literary exploration of contemporary topics, this exhibit is intended to create dialogue about a variety of issues and inspire new ways of thinking.

33 IDEAS! showcases visual and literary artists associated with Colorado Art Ranch, where they have been presenters, artists-in-residence, or involved in one or more Artposia (public interdisciplinary symposia). The group was selected to represent Colorado Art Ranch’s philosophy.

Jon Turk On Wednesday, March 3, starting at 6 p.m., Telluride's Wilkinson Public Library hosts two back to back writing events chock-a-block with thrills and spills. Promise.


Program One, a joint venture between the Library and Between the Covers bookstore, features author/scientist/adventurer Jon Turk, who plans to read from his latest book, "The Raven's Gift."
