Telluride local and yoga instructor Annie Clark joins certified Pilates instructor Lauren Ferioli, founder of ReSource Pilates & Yoga Retreat. The restorative getaway takes place May 1 – May 8, 2010, in Maya Tulum Spa & Resort in Mexico, a gorgeous resort on the Caribbean Sea with pristine white sand beaches. Resource Retreats likes alliteration, suggesting its week-long immersions offer opportunities to reinvigorate, rejunvenate, recuperate, reconnect, realign, refresh, and relax.

Annie holds degrees in an biology and occupational therapy. She works in the Telluride region as an OT and also heads the regional Autism & Behavior Consultation Team, one of two Colorado Model Teams. Annie rounds out her week as a regular instructor at the Telluride Yoga Center. The common thread that ties all the disciplines she has mastered together in a pretty party bow is the desire to effect positive change in the lives of others. Bottom line: Annie’s life work is all about making what appeared impossible, possible. And personal transformation without judgment is one definition of Yoga.

Annie’s eclectic yoga resume includes studying the vigorous practice of Ashtanga Yoga in India with the head of the lineage, Pattabhi Jois. She completed several teacher training sessions with Jois devotee Richard Freeman, and has worked closely for years with Nancy Stechert, a senior instructor and her primary mentor today, in alignment-based Iyengar yoga.

In Annie’s classes – the retreat in Mexico will be no different – the focus is always on the therapeutic aspects of the ancient science, or yoga chikitsa. The goal of yoga chikitsa is to realign the spine, detoxify the body, build strength, flexibility and stamina. Annie’s classes emphasize breath work to integrate the mind and body and include an basic understanding of the philosophy behind the ancient art and science of Yoga established about 5,000 years ago.

The retreat at Maya Tulum welcomes students at all levels of practice, from beginner to more advanced yoginis.
