Albert Einstein, the quintessential Pisces

Albert Einstein was born on March 14, 1879 in what was then known as Um, the Kingdom of Württemberg in the German Empire. He died in Princeton, NJ on April 18, 1955. From Germany to Italy, Switzerland and finally America, Einstein shimmered his brilliance, humor and eccentric style upon all whom he encountered. As a quintessential Pisces, he tapped in to the cosmic consciousness and divined order in chaos, reconciled mechanics with electromagnetism and created elegant mathematical equations to explain time and space.  He is best known for his theory of relativity and the mass-energy equivalence equation E = mc2.

Einstein received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921 for his services to Theoretical Physics, and especially for the discovery of photoelectrons and the quantum nature of light. In 1999 Time magazine named him the “Person of the Century” and in wider culture today, the name “Einstein” has become synonymous with genius. As an eternal romantic, child at heart and epitome of the absent-minded, nutty professor, with a cluttered desk and a wild hairdo, Einstein pulled metaphysical magic out of his cerebral hat and captured the world’s imagination. His life and work continue to inspire and intrigue us, entertain and enlighten.  As a shining example of Piscean magnificence, here’s to Albert Einstein. May his creative, scientific legacy and legendary intuitive intelligence live on, forever and ever, in the numinous ethers of universal consciousness. Happy Birthday month to the Fish!

Thus begins Abraham Lincoln’s now famous Gettysburg Address, one of the most quoted political speeches in history. Delivered at the dedication of Soldier’s National Cemetery on the actual Gettysburg battlefield site, Lincoln asks the American people to not forget the cause for which these brave men gave their lives, and “that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom; and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

On February 12, 2009 America celebrates the 200th birthday of this outstanding man, the 16th President of our United States. Remembered today as the “Great Emancipator,” Lincoln led our country through its greatest internal crisis, the Civil War, preserved the Union and abolished slavery. As the first U.S. President to be assassinated in office, he also sacrificed his life in service. Mourned nationally at his death and ranked today as one of our best Presidents, Lincoln’s legacy is one of true Aquarian principles: liberty, equality and justice for all. Let us remember how far we’ve come and how grateful we are. And let’s reignite our commitment to a government of, by and for the people. God bless ole honest Abe, he's a fabulous example of humanitarian Aquarianism. And Happy Valentine's Day! Celebrate a true Aquarian holiday, and give your love to the world!

These are keywords for Aquarius and touchstones for our current times. Aquarius is the sign of the rebel and the revolutionary, the humanitarian and the innovator. It is also the evolutionary energy of collective consciousness and group effort. It is where we come together as friends and associates for the common good, think out of the box and actually change the world. Today’s social, political and ecCythia, moonriseonomic conditions and challenges constellate the essence of our emerging new age - it’s all about globalization – and we simply cannot turn the tide. We are all in this together; white, black, red, yellow, Serbian, Russian, Israeli, Chinese, Australian, Native American, French, Egyptian, Indian, Chilean, man, woman and child. Whatever. And it’s the responsibility for each of us, individually, to identify the ways and means that we can be integral, contributing factors to the betterment and enlightenment of humankind, respect Mother Nature and support healthy, sustainable life on this planet.
     On Feb. 9th, at 7:50 a.m. MST, the Sun, Moon and Earth line up in the celestial aspect of a Full Moon lunar eclipse in the Aquarius/Leo polarity. This is where and when the individual heart aligns with the collective heart and we can feel the strong, electromagnetic charge of universal, cosmic love. May we join hands and hearts as friends and lovers of the earth and follow the light.

The shifts of these fast-moving planets increase the pace of activity on the surface, yet resistance to substantial change may be pushing up from below. The opposition of restrictive Saturn to revolutionary Uranus on February 5 can provoke a conservative backlash against conventional ideas. This is the second of five face-offs between these contrasting planets that last from November 4 until July 26, 2010. However, the futuristic force of Uranus could break through Saturn's resistance. The enthusiastic presence of the Sun, Mars and Jupiter in Uranus' home sign of Aquarius favors progressive influences. Yet, the second opposition in a series like this often counters the effects of the first one."

 I especially like the way this astrologer presents the explosive and restrictive forces at work in these very dynamic times. We have recently witnessed the shattering breakthroughs of proverbial glass ceilings; the election of our first African-American (and Caucasian) biracial President on Nov. 4th - the day of the first of these five Saturn/Uranus oppositions - stunned and inspired the world. The hope of collective healing, the dream of a united America and the optimistic ideal of 'a more perfect union' vibrated from the Eastern seaboard to the mountains of Colorado to the shores of the great Pacific. Across our nation - black and white, red and yellow, rich and poor, haves and have nots, young and old, male and female - people joined together in a shimmering rainbow of evolutionary awakening and soulful enlightenment. This is the exciting, intriguing prospect of the emerging Aquarian Age. May we combine the wisdom, focus and structure of Saturn with the liberating, progressive freedom of Uranus for a truly awesome era of positive, productive change. Yes, we can!

Prepare yourselves for the year's first total solar eclipse - not visible in the Rocky Mountain West - which takes place on Jan. 26th @ 12:55 a.m. MST in the early degrees of revolutionary Aquarius. For all, this translates as a time of great awakening and New Age awareness. We are all starting fresh, whether we realize it consciously or not. Look around and see the changes happening in and all around you. Get together with people you respect and admire. Recognize the power of friendship and collective effort. Think about service to humanity and what you have to give. Also take note of Chinese New Year 4704, Year of the Ox, which begins at sunset following the Aquarius New Moon. Good luck and may the evolutionary force of knowledge and the persevering power of the ox be with you.

On January 23rd, our beloved non-profit, local radio station, KOTO, will be holding its annual guest DJ day in an effort to raise money to pay for their yearly costs of operation and broadcasting. The theme is astrological this year, and will feature three DJs of each element in consecutive two hour segments, playing music of their choosing and hopefully, music from musicians of each element also. I’ve been asked to write a piece on the Four Elements, FYI. So, brush up on your astrological knowledge and tune in on Friday to find out who’s who.

The Four Elements – fire, earth, air and water – are the aggregates in the cornerstone of astrology – mankind’s oldest science - and as such, connect our physical, three dimensional world and our experience on it to the cosmic, ethereal world, i.e. the ethers – which is the fifth element of our Universe. They are the essential components of the astrological description of man.

Last week's Capricorn/Cancer Full Moon rose above the relatively flat eastern horizon of the Uncompahgre Plateau exactly as the Sun set below the distant "Blues" in Utah's canyonland country south of Moab. I was stunned by the subtle pastel beauty of an enormous ivory Moon against a pale pink and aqua sky. Horsefly Mesa was covered in snowy white, studded with blue-black craggy pine and naked aspen. I thought of Edward Abbey in his mysterious afterlife and wondered if he still roamed in spirit amongst the desert rocks and pristine peaks - the rugged lands he loved so much - or if he had long forgotten the earthly life for one more abstract and enchanting beyond. 

It is at moments like these, when my body senses the ethereal magic, the fleeting cosmic high of celestial magnitude and the interconnectedness of all creation, that I can feel my own spirit - energy, light, nothing and everything, forever and ever, eternal - and I am at peace. To live in a place of such natural grandeur, with hope and freedom as allies, I am truly blessed. May we all embrace the many gifts of our Father Sun, Mother Earth and Great Spirit. May we walk in beauty.

Several astrological events of note take place this week:

1. The year’s first “super-moon” – which is a lunation that takes place when the Moon is both at perigee (its closest approach to Earth) and syzygy (in direct alignment with the Sun and Earth) – occurs on Jan. 10th at 8:27 p.m. MST and will come to fruition @ 22 degrees in the Capricorn/Cancer polarity.

As with all Full Moons, expect to experience illumination in fields of darkness. This month, look for enlightenment regarding physical, material realities and the identification of sacrifices and resources necessary to achieve goals and manifest dreams. This is a very karmic Moon, when we see clearly and understand the consequences of our actions and choices. Life is an ongoing process of cause and effect, choose and act wisely.

Happy New Year! Another revolution around the Sun and 2008 is history. And what a year it has been! Lots to look forward to and plenty of great opportunities coming up to initiate change. It's all about taking personal responsiblity for our gifts and talents and then utilizing them in unusual, inventive ways - for the benefit of all concerned. We are living in an interconnected, inter-related, interactive Universe where everything we think, feel and do acts as an electromagnetic, evolutionary force of visionary vibration and creative manifestation. Never believe that you have no effect on the outcome. You are the outcome. Good luck and may the Force be with you!

Christmas has come and gone and the New Year looms upon our proverbial glittering horizon. We have a few days to catch our breath and prepare ourselves mentally, emotionally and spiritually for the end of one solar cycle and the beginning of another. As always, at this time of year, we find ourselves taking our first steps through cardinal Capricorn, and in so doing, are awakened to the physical reality in which we live, love, work and breathe. The focus on gifts and presents, the food and drink, the sights and sounds, and the money spent – or not spent - are all tactile, sensual, material examples of this down-to-earth, practical and socially conscious sign. We are suddenly aware of the need for self-discipline, structure and sacrifice - to pay off those credit card bills or get rid of those extra pounds – and feel almost magnetically attracted to programs of self-betterment. The good news is that these types of actions and behaviors are actually favored now. The Universe supports and assists those willing to set goals, make commitments and work toward goal accomplishment. So, as this week winds its way into 2009, take advantage of the Dec. 27th Capricorn New Moon. Great time to get the ball rolling. Initiate! Happy New Year!
