January 29 to February 5, 2009
Visible Planets: Morning: Saturn Evening: Venus
"It feels like a fresh start with communicative Mercury turning direct on January 31, vivacious Venus firing into impulsive Aries on February 2, and assertive Mars moving into innovative Aquarius on the 4th. The shifts of these fast-moving planets increase the pace of activity on the surface, yet resistance to substantial change may be pushing up from below. The opposition of restrictive Saturn to revolutionary Uranus on February 5 can provoke a conservative backlash against conventional ideas. This is the second of five face-offs between these contrasting planets that last from November 4 until July 26, 2010. However, the futuristic force of Uranus could break through Saturn's resistance. The enthusiastic presence of the Sun, Mars and Jupiter in Uranus' home sign of Aquarius favors progressive influences. Yet, the second opposition in a series like this often counters the effects of the first one."
The Mountain Astrologer by Jeff Jawer. Issue#143* Feb/Mar 2009
I especially like the way this astrologer presents the explosive and restrictive forces at work in these very dynamic times. We have recently witnessed the shattering breakthroughs of proverbial glass ceilings; the election of our first African-American (and Caucasian) biracial President on Nov. 4th – the day of the first of these five Saturn/Uranus oppositions – stunned and inspired the world. The hope of collective healing, the dream of a united America and the optimistic ideal of 'a more perfect union' vibrated from the Eastern seaboard to the mountains of Colorado to the shores of the great Pacific. Across our nation – black and white, red and yellow, rich and poor, haves and have nots, young and old, male and female – people joined together in a shimmering rainbow of evolutionary awakening and soulful enlightenment. This is the exciting, intriguing prospect of the emerging Aquarian Age. May we combine the wisdom, focus and structure of Saturn with the liberating, progressive freedom of Uranus for a truly awesome era of positive, productive change. Yes, we can!
Aries (Mar. 21-Apr.19) Mercury resumes forward motion in your solar 10th house of career on Jan. 31st and while you may not yet be ready to make a commitment, the information and impressions you’ve acquired recently can lead to a successful, realistic choice in the very near future. Reach out and connect with people who share your dreams for the world and keep the faith.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) You may feel as if the sky is falling or the world is spinning wildly out of control as collective change forces old establishments to crumble. On the other hand, you can see and understand the inherent need to restructure badly disfigured, distorted and dysfunctional systems. Stand up for truth, work for justice and keep your eye on the ball.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) Your ruling planet, Mercury, goes direct this week and helps move financial deals and shared investments forward. Do what you can regarding capital improvements, but maintain realistic budgets. Open your heart to friends and get out amongst people of like mind and spirit. Creative inspiration comes via positive, productive influences. Find it!
Cancer (June 22-July 22) Lunar energy intensifies as the Moon waxes its way to fruition on Feb. 9th. Breathe in and intuit collective change. Mercury direct favors honest communication with partners and mates. Straighten out any real or imagined misunderstandings or resentments. Recognize your part, make amends and move forward. Career reward beckons. Keep it sweet.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22)
The recent Aquarius new Moon solar eclipse has set the stage for a year of positive fresh starts regarding others. This is a time when your most important relationships can heal, expand and improve exponentially. All it takes is a happy, healthy you. Open your mind and heart to the unlimited possibilities and potential of our universe. Share the joy.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22)
Mercury direct in Capricorn fuels mental fires regarding personal creativity, romantic interests and ways to make life more fun. Recognize the power of humor and the great joy of laughter. The simplest pleasures are often the best ones. Communicate and play with children, explore childhood haunts. Take action regarding love and be smart with money.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct.22)
It feels like a fresh start with Mercury direct, a fresh lunation and vivacious Venus entering fiery Aries. You may suddenly feel more social and want to get out and explore new relationship options. Expect to find more than one attractive and willing possibility out there; the world is your oyster. Good things come via others, seek and you shall find.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
The concentration of planets in collective signs emphasizes your personal contribution to the world at large and the part you have to play in its evolutionary picture. You can no longer pretend you’re just a solo act, left alone to live or die. Live each day, one day at a time, with great honor and responsibility. Others need your strength. Keep it together and lead by example.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20)
A team of planets line up to provide you with an easy path to awakening this week. Shocking news or a sudden change at home breaks glass ceilings and opens floodgates of personal and global awareness. Now is the time and you are here. Grab only the essentials, take only what you need and recognize the power of one. And don’t forget, we are one.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) As Mercury and Mars prepare to exit Capricorn and enter Aquarius to join several asteroids and planets there, count your blessings and say your prayers. Stick to the basics and maintain your cool when it comes to emotional and financial indulgence. Stay close to home and enjoy life’s simple pleasures. Work on self-improvement and leave the rest.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
The recent eclipse in your sign wiped the slate clean when it comes to outmoded systems, dysfunctional relationships and unhealthy egos. You stand on the brink of an emerging new world, where individual contribution and collective effort must join together in sweeping evolutionary change. As a poster child of the New Age, embrace the challenge.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)
The eclipse window opens wide and the second Saturn/Uranus opposition lines up to break another glass ceiling in your personal world of relationships. As you continue to shock and excite, remember that change comes in spurts and spats. It may be time to hold the line, stay the course and maintain the status quo, rather than lead the charge. Be cool.
