San Miguel County residents experiencing pandemic-related stress or other mental health issues can now get free tele-therapy sessions in English or Spanish with a mental health professional thanks to new partnership between Telluride Regional Medical Center and Sondermind, a Colorado organization that uses technology to connect mental health professionals with patients who need services.

The new partnership is designed to address the region’s mental health crisis by increasing access to care for county residents for whom cost is a barrier.

“The pandemic has been an incredibly difficult time for our entire community,” said Telluride Regional Medical Center Behavioral Health Counselor Lindsay Wright. “This partnership is a direct response to that crisis and will offer some hope to anyone dealing with Covid and economic stress. We encourage anyone who is struggling to reach out to us now to take advantage of these available services.”

Patients needing care can contact the Medical Center for an assessment. If you are a current patient, the best way to make contact is through the Patient Portal. If you are a new patient or have not set up a Patient Portal account, please call 970-728-3848, extension zero.

The Medical Center team will ensure that patients have whatever they need for tele-therapy, including access to email, a computer or smart phone, and a private space for the sessions. Patients can then be referred for tele-therapy sessions with either an English or Spanish speaking therapist.

“We are here for anyone who’s been struggling during the pandemic and had trouble accessing help, or anyone who just needs someone to talk to,” said Dr. Christine Mahoney, Primary Care Medical Director for Telluride Regional Medical Center. “Our goal is to create and support a network to meet the community’s mental health needs. Nobody should have to suffer alone.”

If you or someone you know is facing a mental health emergency, call the Center For Mental Health 24-hour crisis line: 970-252-6220.
