Last week, Governor Jared Polis declared Colorado as high risk for exposure to or transmission of COVID-19. Governor Polis signed an executive order expanding eligibility for COVID-19 booster doses. The following eligibility applies to all Coloradans effective immediately:

• Moderna recipients who are 18 years of age or older and received their second dose at least six months ago.

• Pfizer recipients who are 18 years of age or older and received their second dose at least six months ago.

• Johnson and Johnson recipients who are 18 years of age or older and received their initial dose at least two months ago.

According to a press release, this effort is to ensure every Coloradan can get the safe and effective COVID-19 booster shot in order to protect public health, reduce transmission, preserve hospital capacity, and alleviate the stress on health care workers from the COVID-19 pandemic in Colorado.

“The health and safety of Coloradans has been my top priority throughout this global pandemic. We want to ensure that Coloradans have every tool they need to protect themselves from this deadly virus and to help reduce the stress on our hospitals and healthcare workers. Every Coloradan is now eligible to get the booster so they can protect themselves and their families,” said Governor Polis. “I was relieved to get the booster two weeks ago, and strongly encourage you to get it too.”

Weekly vaccine clinics will continue through the end of the year, offering first, second, third and booster doses as well as pediatric doses for the recently authorized 5- to 11-year-old group.

• Pediatric Pfizer Clinic for 5- to 11-year-olds: Thursday, November 18 – 3:45 to 4:30 pm – Lone Cone Library in Norwood

• Moderna: Friday, November 19 – 3:30 to 5:30 pm – Telluride Intermediate School Gym

• Flu: Tuesday, November 23 – 1 to 3 pm – Public Health Department, 333 W. Colorado Ave 3rd Floor, Telluride

“The best thing we can do to aid in the hospital capacity crisis is to protect ourselves from severe infection by getting vaccinated,” said Public Health Director Grace Franklin. “The Delta variant currently makes up 100% percent of cases in the state. Bringing immunity levels back up through boosters will protect our most vulnerable individuals, especially when amplified by our COVID containment measures, like wearing masks indoors and frequent testing.”

According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), vaccinated people are 8.9 times less likely to be hospitalized for COVID-19 than those who are unvaccinated.
