SM County: FDA, CDC – Boosters for Moderna, J&J Recipients!

San Miguel County spreads the word: The US Food and Drug Administration and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have authorized booster doses for recipients of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccines. Additionally both entities have authorized those eligible for a booster dose to receive any of the three authorized vaccines as their booster based on preference or availability.

“These new recommendations give small communities, like ours in particular, greater flexibility and opportunity in strengthening our community immunity,” said Public Health Director Grace Franklin. “There are a lot of details to consider when looking at these authorizations, we want to encourage people to ask questions and consider the options that are best for them.”

With this authorization, the following COVID vaccine recipients are now eligible for a booster:

Moderna recipients that received their second dose over 6 months ago and are:

• 66 years of age or older.
• 50 to 65 years of age with certain medical conditions.
• Residing in long-term care settings.

Johnson & Johnson recipients that received their single dose over 2 months ago and are:

• 18 years of age and older.
• Pfizer recipients that received their second dose over 6 months ago and are:
• 66 years of age or older.
• 50 to 65 years of age with certain medical conditions.
• Residing in long-term care settings.
