27 Mar Local Nonprofit Wins National Award
Tri-County Health is recognized as Rural Health Champion for information dissemination.
On February 28, 2018, Tri-County Health Network (TCHNetwork) was presented the Rural Health Champion of Information Dissemination Award from the United States Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
TCHNetwork was one of seven rural organizations recognized nationwide – and the only champion of Information Dissemination.
According to HRSA Administrator George Sigounas, MS, Ph.D, “These [7] organizations are an essential part of the health care system because they understand their local communities, are able to fill significant health care gaps and ultimately improve the quality of life for those living in rural America.”
Lynn Borup, TCHNetwork’s Executive Director, traveled to Bethesda, Maryland to accept the award. Ms. Borup said, “We are honored to be selected as the Rural Health Champion for Information Dissemination! In our mind, dissemination means making sure people have, understand, and can use the information they need to make decisions about their health. This is a critical part of each of TCHNetwork’s 20 Community Outreach Programs and a key function for all our team members. Thank you to HRSA, the dedicated TCHNetwork team, and all of the organizations we partner with regionally that help us empower our community members to achieve health!”
TCHNetwork’s main dissemination strategy is to make health and health insurance topics easy-to-understand and fun. Then distribute information using Facebook and Twitter posts, live stream events, video series, e-newsletters, local events, public service announcements, and articles in newspapers. To ensure that the messaging is appropriate for all residents in our region, TCH produces its materials in both English and Spanish and regularly offer simultaneous interpretation services at events.
Beyond the local community, TCHNetwork has a longstanding reputation across the state as a thought- leader for rural health. TCHNetwork staff members are regular participants on various statewide boards and committees, where they share the stories of the region’s residents and advocate for equitable resources for rural residents.
