Who is the person in your mirror? Someone you like a lot? Or are you hyper-critical of the face looking back at you? Do you suffer from low self-esteem and an associated, underlying, and persistent anxiety induced by largely irrational fears?
To be clear, this is not the prelude to an infomercial for the latest, greatest, psychotropic cure-all. It is, however, an introduction to a renowned healer, a man who has helped thousands – Academy Award and Grammy winners, Olympic gold medalists, Super Bowl champs, and everyday folks in estranged relationships, failing careers, and victims of serious accidents and other traumas – move past emotional blocks to greater power, success, and deep joy.
Dr. George Pratt is a clinical psychologist and bestselling author of four books (translated into 13 languages), among them “Code to Joy” and “Instant Emotional Healing: Acupressure for the Emotions.”
Pratt has a private practice in La Jolla, CA. where, for over 30 years, he has specialized in helping people heal blocks and achieve their goals through science-based tools.
Pratt served as Chairman of Psychology at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla and is on staff. He was also a frequent guest on “Larry King Live.”
About Pratt’s work, specifically the science-based tools he and co-author Dr. Peter Lambrou serve up in “Code to Joy,” TV talk show icon King had this to say:
“A brilliant formula for tapping into our highest potential. I predict it (the lessons in the book) will change many people’s lives for the better. Including yours.”
Definitely “including yours” if you attend the second annual Telluride Integrative Wellness Summit, which takes place Friday, September 9 – Sunday, September 11, at the Telluride Conference Center in Mountain Village, where Pratt is scheduled to give two talks: “Sleep, Stress, Anxiety, And Access Happiness and Health”; and “Stop Anxiety and Fear to Create Joy and Success.”
“Utilizing tools presented in the programs individuals will be able to be aware of and incorporate techniques that assist them in becoming more relaxed, experience better quality sleep, and become more joyful. We will discuss what happens when our brain becomes traumatized and what can be done to bring them into balance. All this will aid individuals in becoming happier, which contributes to healthy longevity,” explains Pratt.
Among the ideas Pratt will explore at the Wellness Summit:
All stress is not bad.
Connection between sleep-stress and anxiety.
Function of sleep and the emotional loops that interfere with sleep.
Over-thinking loops and their consequences.
Trauma and the effect on the brain.
Subconscious effects of worry, stress, and anxiety.
Ways to quiet the mind and renew the body.
Mind-body connection and why talk therapy does not always do the trick.
Acupuncture.
Medical basis for muscle testing.
Hypnosis: what is it and how does it work.
Pratt also plans a show and tell, offering demonstration of hypnosis and the unique intervention he describes as “energy psychology,” a blend of Western cognitive processes and Eastern healing methods that uses acupressure and imagery to effect profound change.
A literature search identified 51 peer-reviewed papers that report or investigate clinical outcomes following the tapping of acupuncture points to address psychological issues. The conclusion?
“A review of current evidence revealed that the use of acupoint stimulation in treating psychological disorders has been examined in a number of studies that met accepted scientific standards. These studies have consistently demonstrated strong effect sizes and other positive statistical results that far exceed chance after relatively few treatment sessions. Investigations in more than a dozen countries by independent research teams have all produced similar results. Speculation on the mechanisms involved suggests that tapping on acupoints while a presenting emotional problem is mentally activated rapidly produces desired changes in the neurochemistry involved in that problem. If favorable outcome research on energy psychology continues to accumulate—as recent developments would predict—and explanatory models for the observed effects continue to evolve, acupoint stimulation will offer clinicians a technique that can be used with confidence for quickly altering the neural pathways that underlie psychological problems.”
“George Pratt has an amazing gift to help you become the best you can be. He’s had a huge impact on my ability to go further than I thought possible. There is no limit to what you can accomplish when you focus your abilities. Apply what you learn from reading ‘Code to Joy’ and you’ll prove that to yourself,” said Dara Torres, five-time Olympic champion and author of “Age Is Just a Number.”
George Pratt’s work has made a profound impact on my life. As I have benefited from our work together, I’ve grown to love him and respect his commitment to healing,” Dr. Benjamin Spock, author, “Dr. Spock’s Baby and Child Care.”
“I have used the techniques in this book (“Code of Joy”) with traumatized people in war-torn regions of the world such as the refugee camps of the Kosovar Albanians, even without a benefit of translation, and have observed the same powerful results described by Drs. Pratt and Lambrou,” Sandra Bagley, Ph.D., board certified nurse practitioner and international medical relief worker.
