09 Apr New CEO for Telluride Hospital District
The Telluride Hospital District, the governing body of the Telluride Medical Center, named John Gardner the new chief executive after its current executive director, Gordon Reichard, announced his retirement after nine years at the helm.
Gardner, a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and previous CEO of the Yuma District Hospital and Clinic, will assume the reins effective Monday, June 6. Gardner and his wife Jeannie—a former teacher and a hobby potter—will be relocating to the region for the position. Reichard will stay on throughout the transition.
Larry Mallard, chair of the hospital district board said, “We value John Gardner’s 20 years of experience as a senior manager in healthcare. His knowledge of health facility construction and Critical Access Hospitals will be a tremendous asset as we move forward in the construction of the new facility.”
Gardner will inherit an organization that is financially sound and delivers excellent patient care, but is at or above patient capacity most months. The hospital district board is in the process of seeking a Wetlands Permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to build a new facility in Mountain Village.
Baker Tilly, a national search firm, conducted the CEO search, which attracted over 600 applicants. The hospital district board said his appointment was made “unanimously” by its board and a search committee.
