“Wow!” The interjection expresses excitement and surprise, amazement and awe. Perfect fit, (yes, pun intended) for Telluride’s very first fitness festival. Oh…W.O.W., Optimum Health Work Out Weekend, a health, wellness and fitness mashup and the latest addition to Telluride’s packed summer/fall calendar, about to open its sophomore season.
The fun and games taking place at the 2nd annual WOW Festival are scheduled for Thursday, September 18 through Sunday, September 21. (See full schedule below).
WOW is brought to you by locals Becca Tudor of Fuel Telluride (Membership-based gym and private studio, 300 South Mahoney Drive, base, Lift 7) and local entrepreneur Albert Roer.
Becca has worked as a certified personal trainer and gyrotonic instructor for over 16 years. Her goal? To“identify with and educate my clients so they reach their highest potential in health, fitness, wellness and quality of life.”
The genesis of W.O.W. dates back about five years, when she and husband Narcis reminded themselves of a simple truth: physical (physiological and emotional) fitness is the key to success in whatever sports athletes in this town and our extended global community choose to follow.
Albert, a realtor/manager (Telluride Properties), owner of the Telluride Yoga Festival and co-owner of the Telluride Yoga Center became a true believer in the efficacy of a regular yoga practice following an injury in 2005. He is also a devoted client of Becca, whose strengthening routines have helped to improve his skiing.
Becca approached Albert with the idea for WOW just over two years ago and in the blink of an eye it was all systems go.
“The intent of Telluride WOW is to bring like-minded people together to experience the love and appreciation of health and fitness,” said Becca. “Our goal is to create an exceptional weekend for people that want to either get started on a new fitness program or advance their skills in a variety of activities from adventure racing to boot camp, climbing, cross fit, cycling, Pilates, yoga, ZUMBA and more.”
WOW brings world-class presenters – internationally known fitness figures, coaches, adventure athletes, doctors – to Telluride to lecture and hold classes on the latest health, fitness, wellness, nutrition and medical trends, among them superstars Tony Horton, creator of P90X®, the best-selling fitness program in America and author of two highly acclaimed books “Bring It” and Crush It,” and Jonathan Ross, a former astronaut, host of the web series “Everyday Fitness with Jonathan Ross,” and author of “Abs Revealed.” Local instructors include Lynn Tardiff, Mathew Corner, Alyssa Saunders, Hilaree O’Neill, Nicole Stone-Lankes, Kristin Taylor, and Jill Burchmore.
In addition to activities specifically associated with WOW, Telluride is celebrated worldwide for its scenic beauty and recreational offerings. And there is something for everyone.
The river trail weaves through our town and extends east and west for several miles, offering a wonderful walking, biking and trail running experience for all ages and abilities.
A vast network of trails connect through the San Juan Mountains opening up still more opportunities to be challenged and explore.
Festival participants are welcome to take advantage of group hiking activities, mountain climbing, road and mountain biking.
The 2014 WOW Festival will be held at Telluride FUEL and the Peaks Resort and Spa.
“WOW’s bigger picture is to identify and address the social issue of our nation’s depression and obesity problem, reflecting a pattern of behavior being passed down to our children,” explained Becca.
