It’s official. The new hot color of the season is maroon. Maroon is making a head-to-toe hit for many reasons.

First of all, it’s been a while since we’ve seen maroon in fashion. Other colors and trends have been recycled time and again, but maroon has kept a low profile for decades.  I haven’t seen maroon since my Guess jeans in high school (and I’m about to go to my 20 year high-school reunion!) So the time has come.  Now I’m ready for a pair of Current/Elliot wineberry waxed skinny jeans or a pair of Paige jeggings in mulberry.

Second, it’s a universal shade and will easily befriend other fashion favorites like grey, black and navy (which are not going away any time soon.)  Maroon is a perfect new compliment to your closet’s basics.  To update a pair of last year’s grey jeans, add an Elizabeth and James maroon silk blouse or spice up a navy dress with a maroon belt and tights.

Finally, a maroon accessory solves the age-old question of black versus brown. Ta-dah! It goes with both.  Marc by Marc Jacobs has the perfect maroon cross body bag and Gillian Julius has created a maroon crystal bracelet that will work with all your fall ensembles. While we’re on the subject of arm candy, dress your nails in maroon as well!
