YOUR AH HAA MOMENT: BRAvo

YOUR AH HAA MOMENT: BRAvo

Boy in bras?

Nope, not a drag club.

Anything but a drag.

Mark your calendar for Thursday, October 18, 7 p.m., historic New Sheridan Bar, when the Ah Haa School for the Arts presents its third annual BRAvo event in support of the San Miguel Resource Center and in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Prevention Month.

The Resource Center is the region’s only nonprofit dedicated to eliminating interpersonal violence in the region. Through intervention services and prevention education, the San Miguel Resource Center provides an invaluable service to the Telluride community and beyond.

But this year for the first time, the Resource Center is not BRAvo’s only beneficiary. The new entry is Bosom Buddies, a breast cancer support group for southwestern Colorado based in Montrose. The organization provides emotional and financial support to individuals living in small communities in southwestern Colorado who are affected by breast cancer.

The BRAvo Annual Bra Invitational Auction & Fundraiser was started as a fun and unique way for the community to come together, express itself creatively and shine a light on serious and often very painful challenges.

We all know Telluride is a uniquely talented community. At no time is this more apparent than in the bras people submit for the BRAvo fundraiser each year: everything from bottle caps, paint, felt and even keys and electronics have adorned the undergarments-as-canvas Ah Haa provides each year. And the men who model the unmentionables are equally colorful and uninhibited. Why men? Because breast cancer effects men through their mothers, daughters, sisters and wives and having guys model the bras allows them to become an active part of the happening, turning the tables in a fun and festive way.

On auction night, all community bras are showcased and then sold. Once again, on October 18, the live auction starts at 7 p.m., but come early for drink specials and to be sure you find a great spot for viewing the show.

And thank you Telluride for your showing your true colors and making BRAvo such a successful fundraiser. If you would like to support BRAvo – pun intended – drop off your art bra at Ah Haa’s building, The Depot, 300 South Townsend, by October 12.
