FASHION FRIDAY: DAISIES FOR MOTHER’S DAY

FASHION FRIDAY: DAISIES FOR MOTHER’S DAY

It feels like the 1960s all over again. Flower power is one of the trends of the hour. (Along with color blocking, which we discussed in this column –  what was it? – a month or so ago and a 1920s elegance shades of Daisy Buchanan of Gatsby fame.) In this field of fashionable flowers, daisies stand out.

Daisies are associated with purity, innocence, loyal love, beauty, patience and simplicity. The species is believed to have come into being about 4,000 years ago: hairpins decorated with daisies were found during the excavation of the Minoan Palace on Crete.

And now in Valentino’s Red Collection. No stranger to daisies, Red Valentino previously created a strapless daisy dress circa three springs ago. (I know because the dress, once at Two Skirts, is in my closet.) Valentino picks daisies again this spring in a beautiful arrangement of yellow and white. Pictured all matchy-matchy, the separates are also a hit when mixed up: the white cotton voile blouse with daisy appliqué is cute with capris, and the yellow mini with white daisies is easily dressed down with a black tee. I love them together with white cork wedges for a sweet and sporty summer look.

From apparel to accessories, jewelry to shoes, even tech items are getting the daisy treatment. Dolce & Gabbana, for example, does it best with their eye-popping daisy iPad case, covered in polka dots and daisies and available in black or white.
What a perfect combo: Valentino for you. D&G for your indispensable companion, iPad!

So for Mother’s Day, ask for daisies. Who knows what you’ll receive!
