“Artist” may not be part of your Facebook profile, but we at the Ah Haa School believe it could be and should be. We designed our summer programs to make finding your inner Picasso easy and affordable. Introducing our new drop-in weekly art classes. Just grab a friend and agree to try something new together: exploring your creativity. That’s the idea behind the following four offerings at our school.

Wednesday nights is Canvas & Cocktails, an evening of laughs and art. No intimidation, no pressure, just good, perhaps a little messy, fun. Bring your favorite liquid refreshment and relax into a creative groove. We will send your home happy – and with the painting you created and, we hope, a commitment to explore your new found talent more deeply.

Every Saturday morning, 9 – noon, use the Ah Haa solarium as your studio. I confess I hate making a mess in my own home, worrying about cats stepping in paint, or the dog walking through my collage materials. Under our roof, anyone can spread out at a table and work without interruption. Bring your own materials or, for a reasonable fee, our Adult Open Studio provides what you need for collaging, painting, and simple ceramics. There are no instructors for adults. Be inspired by other like-minded people looking to create in this easy and open environment. Kids are welcome to join in the fun on Saturday mornings too! We think they will love having their own special art space complete with an instructor to guide their projects.

Robert Weatherford’s popular Painting from Within class has a great following and I have spoken with numerous people interested in following his expert lead. I know from personal experience that his regular course is an eye- (and heart-) opener, however, I have to admit, it is not for the faint of heart. Now you have the chance to sample all that Robert has to offer as a teaser to his intensives. Come paint with the artist every Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and see what all the fuss is about. You may surprise yourself by up signing up for Robert’s August class.

I know there are clay lovers out there. This winter our Tuesday night Open Studio Ceramics took off at a run, so we are offering it again this summer. Join us between 4:30 and 7 p.m. Come in, check it out, play with clay, and if you have prior experience, throw on the wheel.

These are just a few of the many hot summer opportunities Ah Haa has scheduled to make it easier and more fun to create. Classes are just $15 plus materials with the exception of Painting from Within, which is $50. (Because, trust me, Robert is worth it.)
