TWO SKIRTS FASHION FRIDAY: JEANS IN BLOOM

TWO SKIRTS FASHION FRIDAY: JEANS IN BLOOM

“The flowers that bloom in the spring,
Tra la,
Breathe promise of merry sunshine —
As we merrily dance and we sing,
Tra la,
We welcome the hope that they bring,
Tra la,
Of a summer of roses and wine,
Of a summer of roses and wine.
And that’s what we mean when we say that a thing
Is welcome as flowers that bloom in the spring.
Tra la la la la,
Tra la la la la,
The flowers that bloom in the spring.”

(Gilbert & Sullivan, “The Mikado”)

Remember the 1960s? (Ok, you don’t have to admit it.) Well, the days of the flower children have returned. Only now they are all grown up, and the impulse to dress like a garden is not political. It’s sartorial.

European designers certainly never promised us a rose garden – until the Spring collections (on the runway last Fall.) Then they delivered. This spring, everything’s coming up blooms. And blue jeans are no exception.

With the warmer weather upon us, jeans are in full bloom, especially from Citizens of Humanity whose rose print Mandy jean is all the rage. This high-rise peg leg can be seen everywhere from Saks to Anthropologie –  and in town at my boutique, Two Skirts.

How to wear the look? Rose prints work best in a natural colored full-length jean. It also makes a super cute short short in the traditional blue jean wash. So gather ye rosebuds  while thee may. This budding trend is being picked up fast.
