11 Mar Fashion Friday: Celebrating Two Skirts 10th anniversary
[click "Play", Kristin Holbrook talks about 10 years of Two Skirts]
This month, Telluride's Two Skirts celebrates its 10th anniversary.
For the Greek mathematician Pythagoras, 10 was the symbol of the universe and the number that expressed the whole of human knowledge. For the ancient Maya, "10" marked the end of one cycle and the start of another. And for director Blake Edwards, "10" was the top of the bodaciousness scale, the symbol of Bo Derrick.
For Two Skirts, "10" represents another day in the office. But what an office.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..For For Telluride Inside… and Out, the story of Two Skirts is personal. Our relationship with the store began back in 1999, when Kristin Holbrook moved to Telluride. She partnered with Joanne Brown, the other "Skirt," and the two ladies opened for business March 1, 2001.
Out of the gate, Two Skirts shoehorned itself into 600 square feet on a corner of Oak Street. Its second address was the historic Nugget Building, where the dressing room was the safe Butch Cassidy robbed in his heyday. Two Skirts finally found home in May 2006 at its present address: 127 West Colorado Avenue, also a showcase for local art.
The merchandise mix at Two Skirts offers something for everyone: updated classics from Missoni, Vera Wang,Tory Burch and James Perse, and edgier fashions such as Annelore, straight from New York's West Village to Telluride. For a soft touch, there're cashmere sweaters and wraps from Minnie Rose, Christopher Fischer and White + Warren. And, hey, this is Telluride, where "denim" twins with "fashion." Two Skirts stocks Citizens of Humanity, Current/Elliot and Paige. New to the store is a make-up counter featuring the latest and greatest from part-time local Bobbi Brown's bag of tricks.
Two Skirts hums like a top because of Kristin's team that includes my personal shopper Terryl Dahl, my blogging buddy Ashley Deppen, the regular voice of "Fashion Friday," and Gabby Anstey McDonald, the talented graphic artist who designs Kristin's ads and online marketing presence.
A 10th anniversary is generally celebrated with tin, aluminum or diamonds.
