16 Dec Fashion Friday, part 2: Trunk show featuring Chan Luu accesories at Dolce
Telluride's Dolce Jewels is riding the wave opening a trunk show featuring accessories by the uber hot designer, Chan Luu. The event begins December 17, exactly one week before Xmas Eve.
If you've been living in a cave, you may not know the name Chan Luu. But you know her signature bracelets. Women all over the globe are wearing the designer's gemstone and leather or metal on leather creations that wrap neatly around the wrist to form an edgy cuff.
These bracelets are the wrist's answer to jewelry designer Cheryl Rydmark's asymmetrical arrangement of sterling silver beads, gold, leaf-like charms and miscellaneous precious stones I once dubbed Telluride's "sorority necklace." (The necklaces are still popular items at the Telluride Gallery of Fine Art.)
Well sister, now you have another fashionable way to bond. And oh brother, now you have a great idea for a Christmas gift.
In addition to the ubiquitous bracelets, Dolce features Chan Luu's scarves, belts and handbags.
Chan left Vietnam, where she was born and raised, to further her education at Boston University, majoring in Business Administration. Following her dream of becoming a designer, she later moved to Los Angeles and enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, earning a degree in fashion design in 1975.
The designer opened her first boutique in 1982, selling European designer clothing and accessories. In 1996, she started her own business with just four employees. Today Chan Luu Accessories is a global business with prestigious global clients such as Holt Renfrew in Canada and Le Bon Marche in Paris. In the U.S. Chan Luu sells to fine stores such as Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Anthropologie, Henry Bendel. And Dolce Telluride.
