This week, Kristin Holbrook of Two Skirts, Telluride Inside… and Out’s fashionista, pairs two discrete fashion trends to come up with one winner: olive green cargo pants.
Olive has become one of this summer’s hottest colors, because it is very versatile. As Kristin says, “the new gray.”
Cargo pants have long been a favorite street fashion, in part because they convey youthful resistance to being pigeonholed, even in terms of gender. Cargo pants say “rebellion” and “androgyny.” In June, cargo pants went mainstream. They were featured on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar, with the model in a CK Calvin Klein rendition. Top designers soon jumped on the bandwagon: Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Tom Ford for Gucci took military uptown.
