From the first flakes of winter to the arrival of summer monsoons, skiing, mining, mountain history, and memories of winter, “Precipitation” celebrates the ways water-adjacent happenings have shaped Telluride’s landscape, culture, economy, and community.
“Precipitation shapes our way of life in the San Juans,” says Olivia Pedersen, Programs & Operations Manager. “It shapes our landscape, our traditions, our economy, and so many of the experiences that bring people together in Telluride. This exhibition is an invitation to look at water not just as a resource, but as part of our collective story.”
Artists are invited to interpret “Precipitation” broadly. Consider rain, rivers, alpine lakes, snow, storms, weather, winter traditions, mining, skiing, mountain history, folklore, nostalgia, celebration, anticipation, or the many ways water shapes life in Telluride. Original work may be literal or abstract, historical or contemporary, playful or contemplative.
Accepted Media: Original works in painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, printmaking, mixed media, installation, writing, and beyond are welcome.
Telluride Arts invites artists to interpret what precipitation means in a place where water has always been part of the story.
