“The Wonderment” is Word Woman Rosemerry Trommer’s 16th book and 12th collection of poems. Trommer will be celebrating the release on September 24, at Telluride Arts.
In the last hours of my dad’s life, he said to me – or more truly, perhaps, he said to himself –’From our birth…to our death…the wonderment.’ Those words became a compass, a daily invitation to marvel at what is here, the altar of the ordinary, so it’s no surprise that it inspired the title for this book, ‘The Wonderment.’ Every poem was written as a response to our stuff, our habits, our struggles, for instance digging potatoes, driving behind a slow driver on a windy canyon road, grieving unimaginable loss, laughing with a friend, peeling a pomegranate, listening to the news. The book is based in four gateways to wonder: The Opening, The Noticing, The Deepening, The Belonging. If there were a driving principle, it would be this: The miraculous is not found apart from everyday life, but within it. What happens when we abandon our certainty, soften our being, revel in our humanity? How might we come to see every moment of this life, even the moments we might rather resist, as treasure?

Brach is writing of local poet Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer’s new book, “The Wonderment”: “These poems arise from a deep intimacy with the mystery we are part of; they nourish the heart and spirit.”
“The Wonderment” is Trommer’s 16th book and 12th collection of poems. She will be celebrating the release on September 24, at Telluride Arts. The evening opens with piano music by Travis West and brief readings by high school junior Hazel Frerichs and high school senior Stella Coe. Trommer will read poems and open the evening for conversation. Books will be available for sale on site thanks to Between the Covers. A signing will follow.
“I can think of no better way to celebrate a new book than with music by one of my favorite local musicians and poems by two of my favorite young Telluride talents,” Trommer says. “I’m so excited about sharing ‘The Wonderment.’ The poems explore how we continue to fall in love with the world, even in the most mundane moments, even when times are hard.”

Rosemerry Trommer moved to Telluride in 1994, where she worked her as a journalist, substitute teacher, parent educator for Bright Futures, and editor of Telluride Magazine.
Rosemerry and husband Eric owned and operated an organic orchard north of Delta for seven years. For 10 years, she led the Telluride Writers Guild, hosting workshops, literary festivals, a national contest and monthly gatherings. She now travels the world (and the internet), teaching poetry for spiritual organizations, literary organizations, grief organizations, and mindfulness centers.
