21 Jul “The Nugget: A Telluride Restoration Story” Premieres at Opera House, 7/25!
Join Producers Bill and Kathrine Formby for a one-time viewing of their documentary titled “The Nugget: A Telluride Restoration Story.” The 30-minute film is about the couple’s 22-year effort to turn the Nugget Building back into the Phoenix it once was. The evening includes complimentary beer, wine, and heavy appetizers.
The event takes place Saturday, July 25 and begins at 6:30 with a reception before moving upstairs for the screening and Q & A.

The Formby’s first trip to town to escape the Texas summer heat was over 25 years ago.
“We are as smitten today as we were the first day we discovered this jewel-box town,” says Katrine.
From the Telluride Museum:
In a Telluride real estate office in 1999, Katrine Formby saw an historic drawing of the First National Bank of Telluride and was instantly captivated by its stately beauty — the curved windows, the arched bank-hall entries, and the striking tower. It was love at first sight.
“Where is this building?” Katrine asked.
The reply: “You’re sitting in it…and it’s for sale.”
At the time, the building was a pink and blue carnival-like disaster. Stones were falling off into the street, decades of obvious neglect were impossible to ignore, and the historic tower had long since disappeared. Yet that simple conversation sparked a multi-decade labor of love for the building and the people of Telluride. The goal: To restore the building to its former grandeur and recreate the original tower that had been missing for nearly ninety years.
That same year the Formbys purchased The Nugget Building on the corner of Main Street and Fir. Built in 1892, it is one of the oldest structures in Telluride – and located right next door to their Heart of Telluride rental property.
The Formbys may have been part-time locals, but they were full time and big time involved with making a difference by making memories in the Telluride region.
In addition to their commitment to The Nugget complex the couple founded the popular Fourth of July Hot Shot Photo Contest. The Formbys were also responsible for bringing the annual TED Talks to the region through TEDx Telluride Live.
