Towering, ancient, and awe-inspiring, redwood forests are more than natural wonders, they are living models of climate resilience, biodiversity, and long-term stewardship. The evening will feature a wide-ranging conversation with Sam Hodder, former President and CEO of Save the Redwoods League, about why redwoods matter now more than ever.
Drawing on more than three decades of leadership in land conservation, Hodder will explore what makes redwoods so extraordinary, from their remarkable biology and longevity to their outsized role in addressing the climate crisis.
In an era of increasingly intense wildfires, Hodder will also address the role redwoods play in fire resilience. He will explore how restoration of degraded forests can reduce fire severity, support healthier landscapes, and increase resilience in a changing climate.
“Telluride Science and the Telluride Foundation are committed to advancing climate solutions and fostering community dialogue around the most pressing environmental challenges of our time,” said Mark Kozak, CEO of Telluride Science. “We are very excited to be hosting Sam for this event.”
Sam Hodder brings rare perspective to this conversation. Over a 33-year career in nonprofit land conservation, including nearly 12 years leading Save the Redwoods League, he helped permanently protect more than 25,000 acres of redwood forest, launched California’s most ambitious redwood restoration effort, and advanced groundbreaking research on redwoods and climate change.
