10 Feb Poets’ Corner: Art for Valentine’s Day
Marketing guru Scott Haltzmann wrote a book entitled “Eight Ways to Win Your Wife’s Heart Forever.” When it was published back in 2006, woman gave it as a gift to their hubbies on Valentine’s Day. Among the helpful hints for happy living together:
• A person should tell his partner she or he adores her or him. (Often.)
• They should share in the child care if there are kids involved. (Unless he or she is the only child in the house.)
• A partner should listen without judging – or stuff cotton in your ears, nod your agreement and say “I understand” when she or he expresses any kind of emotion. (You can cross your fingers behind your back.)
And when asked what makes a Valentine’s gift meaningful, the top answer is not cost or scale, it is “Showed they paid attention.” Which friend and colleague Art Goodtimes has done.
Art’s observation prompted him write a poem with the excuse of the holiday. His words capture our times – and reveal the fact he has Bogart shoes.

Valentine’s Day
in a
Time of ICE
The Feds on a killing spree
The State collecting taxes
In between Instagram &
the Net’s selfie fax machines
Comes yet another
romantic Valentine’s Day
So demos, for sure. No
kings & hot comedy shows
Still, I’m putting on
my Bogart shoes &
going out dancing at the
Make-It-All-Go-Away cafe
