On January 31, the Telluride Jewish Community plans to screen “Nuremberg” at the Palm Theatre at 4:30 p.m. The evening will be introduced by Katie Triest, a longtime member of the Telluride community whose grandfather is portrayed in the film by Leo Woodall.
Katie also participated in a taped panel discussion that will follow the screening. Go here to listen to that discussion.
Katie has an extraordinary personal connection to the film. She first learned about “Nuremberg” years ago when a friend researching her grandfather’s history discovered that Leo Woodall had been cast to play him. Years later, during the Telluride Film Festival, Katie was sitting on her porch wondering aloud whether she might ever meet Leo — only to realize he was already in town for “The Tuner”
By the next morning, Katie had tracked him down. When she introduced herself and told him who she was, both were moved to tears. They shared an unexpectedly powerful moment about memory, responsibility, and representation. Leo later invited Katie to the Toronto premiere and publicly acknowledged her there. Taped discussion attached though you may need to request access.
Katie reflects on this experience in the panel (link above) and connects it to the larger meaning of Holocaust remembrance and generational memory – as in Never Again.
