Telluride Science & Foundation: “Nature is Nurture: Therapeutic Benefit of Great Outdoors,” 9/25!

Telluride Science and the Telluride Foundation host Dr. Melissa Sundermann, aka,”Doctor Outdoors.” Her subject: “Nature is Nurture: Harnessing the Therapeutic Benefit of the Great Outdoors.” Event takes place Friday, September 26, at the Telluride Innovation Center, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

In this talk, Dr. Melissa will explore the powerful connection between nature and human health. Drawing on both science and personal experience, she will highlight how even small doses of time outside can dramatically improve physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Attendees will leave with practical strategies for weaving nature into their everyday lives, no matter where they live.
Attendees will learn:

• How time in nature reduces stress, anxiety, and depression

• The physical health benefits of being outdoors, from lower blood pressure to better sleep.

• How nature boosts focus, creativity, and cognitive function across all ages.

• The role of outdoor experiences in building social connection and resilience.

• Simple, practical ways to bring more nature into daily routines.

Since the grand opening of the Telluride Innovation Center in July 2024, Telluride Science has hosted more than 100 events and broadened its community outreach.

“We are so pleased to have a permanent home at the Telluride Innovation Center, which allows us to grow our programming and collaborate with partners like the Telluride Foundation,” said Mark Kozak, Executive Director, Telluride Science. “Together, we’re able to bring the community stimulating and thought-provoking events that spark curiosity and connection.”

Telluride Science is hosting yet another collaborative event on October 22, a panel discussion titled “Knowledge is Power: Navigating Breast Health and Breast Cancer.”

Co-sponsored by the Telluride Medical Center and Vail Health, the event is dedicated to raising awareness and deepening understanding of breast health and breast cancer. Two members of The Telluride Medical Center’s team will participate in the discussion: Dr. Sharon Grundy as a panelist and Dr. Koelliker as the moderator. The event is free and open to the public.
