Building on the foundation of the 2023 Vision Plan, this year-long process will include opportunities for residents, business owners, and stakeholders to provide input and help guide the Town’s future growth, priorities, and values.
The Comprehensive Plan will address key areas such as land use, housing, community character, transportation, infrastructure, open space, and sustainability. Community input will play a central role in shaping these priorities and ensuring that the plan reflects the collective vision of those who live and work in Telluride.
“This is an opportunity for the entire community to come together and chart a path forward for Telluride that honors our shared values while adapting to new challenges,” said Historic Preservation and Planning Director Kristen Clothier. “We’re looking forward to listening and learning from our community throughout the process.”
Completed after robust community engagement, the 2023 Community Vision Plan laid the groundwork for this initiative. It asked two important questions: “Where are we now?” and “Where do we want to be?” The resulting document identified core values – sustainability, connectivity, and authenticity – and five guiding principles of livability: Economy, Community, Environment, Infrastructure, and Housing.
Now, the Comprehensive Plan will address the next key question: “How are we going to get there?”
The process kicked off in June 2025 and is expected to be completed by summer 2026. It includes three main phases:
• Foundation – Revisiting and validating the Vision Plan’s values and principles
• Visualizing Livability – Exploring ideas and priorities for the future
• Plan Development – Drafting and finalizing the new Comprehensive Plan
A Community Advisory Committee, made up of local residents, business owners, and community leaders, will help guide the planning and gather feedback throughout the year. In-person events will be held across Telluride to encourage community involvement and input.
