19 Jul CampV: Offering Concrete Carving Workshop, 7/25 – 7/27!
Glamping adventures can be found in nearly every corner of our Big Blue Marble – including just down the road a piece (about an hour away) from Telluride at CampV in Naturita. The place is redolent with history so it offers guests somethings old and somethings new – including the upcoming (July) concrete carving workshop.
Friday 6-8 pm, Saturday 9 am-6 pm; Sunday 10 am-12 pm.

1 workshop ticket – no overnight stay: $325
1 ticket – two-night stay in a one bedroom cabin (1 king) : $600
2 tickets – two-night stay in a one bedroom cabin (1 king): $1,100
2 tickets – two-night stay in a two bedroom cabin (2 queens): $1,200
Plus taxes and fees.
Students will make a planter or a small sculpture.
Students bring rubber gloves and dust mask, all other supplies included. No power tools are used, no prior sculpting experience required.
Optional set of 10 carving tools available for $25.
Schedule:
Day 1 (Fri) – 6-8 PM The class meets, discusses the technique, dry mixes sand and cement and prepares workstations.
Day 2 (Sat) – 9 AM-6 PM The sculpting day is the very active work day. Concrete is wet mixed and placed into cylinder forms to set sufficiently (approx. 3 hrs). Students view images and sketch designs. Lunch break. When mix is ready students carve until finished (5-6 hours).
Day 3 (Sun) – 10 AM-12 PM Students will remove work from workstations, trim foot, and clean up.
About Elder Jone:
Elder Jones has been wet carving concrete for 40 years. His work consists of planters, steps, figurative sculpture, fountains and public art.
Jones has received national attention in the San Francisco Examiner, Southern Living Magazine and on HGTV.
His work and technique are featured extensively in the two popular books by Sherri Warner Hunter.
Jones is featured at Sandpudding Studio in Western North Carolina.
