The Town of Telluride has brought its first fully electric bus online, a significant advancement in the Town’s commitment to sustainable public transportation. This achievement was made possible through a grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), part of a broader $31.7 million initiative to support electric bus adoption across the state.

To celebrate this milestone, the Town invites the community to a Touch-a-Bus event on Thursday, March 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Oak Street Plaza in conjunction with the Gondola Station Planning Pop Up. Attendees will have the opportunity to:

• Explore the new electric bus firsthand.
• Meet and engage with our dedicated transit staff.
• Learn about the environmental and operational benefits of electric public transportation.
• Enjoy coffee and donuts.
• Give input surrounding the future of the Telluride Gondola Station.

Additionally, story time sessions will be held at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. on the new bus, offering an enjoyable and educational experience for children.

“The introduction of our first electric bus represents a pivotal step in Telluride’s ongoing efforts to reduce emissions and promote sustainability,” said Transit Manager Joe Dillsworth. “We are grateful for CDOT’s support, which has been instrumental in making this project a reality, and we look forward to sharing this achievement with our community.”

The new electric bus replaces an aging gas vehicle and is part of Telluride’s strategic plan to transition to a more environmentally friendly transit fleet. This initiative aligns with statewide goals to enhance air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
