Colorado West Performing Arts Company, a premier professional ballet company from Grand Junction, will enchant you with their artistry as they present the entertaining and comical ballet “Coppélia.” Palm Arts Dance middle and high school ballet dancers were invited to perform alongside the pros. They will be dancing to the classic “Waltz of the Hours” piece in Act One.
Nicole Hattler, managing director of the Palm, as well as artistic director of the dance program, is thrilled to provide a high caliber performance opportunity for their local students.
“Being in the presence of professionals during the tech/dress rehearsal and of course the actual performance is an experience that allows a young dancer to absorb and learn all sorts of wonderful information that helps them grow and develop their skills as well… We are thrilled our young dancers were invited to contribute to the performance.”

Colorado West Performing Arts Company was established just three years ago in Grand Junction by Theresa Kahl. Since then the company has grown to 13 professionals who perform a yearly “Nutcracker,” as well as other classic ballets and contemporary works.
While not quite as familiar as say, “The Nutcracker,” or “Swan Lake,” Coppélia is adored by ballet enthusiasts for its delightful score by Delibes and entertaining storyline.
The main heroine, Swanhilda, is engaged to a villager, Franz, but he has his eye on the mysterious girl sitting on the balcony of Dr. Coppélius’s house. Franz doesn’t realize that she is a doll whom the toymaker is trying to bring to life, a variation of the Greek myth of Pygmalion. When Swanhilda and her friends sneak into the Doctor’s workshop, it looks as though he has succeeded.
In the end, love triumphs over all in this comedy of mistaken identity, culminating in a joyful celebration of the lovers’ wedding.
Coppélia is an enchanting, family-friendly ballet, perfect for young and old alike.
