Happy New Year one and all! Before we turn our attention to 2025, however, we wanted to take a moment to thank each and every one of our members, donors, volunteers, visitors, program attendees, and newsletter readers for your part in making 2024 a fantastic year for the museum. We couldn’t dream of doing what we do without you, and we are truly grateful for your support and engagement. Let’s keep the good times rolling as we head into this new year, shall we?

It’s early, but 2025 has gotten off to a solid start at the museum as we welcomed a good number of guests during this first week of the new year. Of course, there is room for plenty more and we’d love for you to come and see us. Feeling a bit cold one day? Tired of the snow/lack of snow? Looking for more of an intellectual thrill? Come on up the Fir Street hill and take part in Telluride’s best alternate activity: visiting the museum! As a reminder, our winter hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM to 5PM (last admission at 4:30PM), and remember, Saturdays are free for residents of San Miguel County.

When you do come to visit us, make sure you leave plenty of time for our current annual exhibit: You Are Here: Opportunity, Exploration, and Endurance in the San Juan Mountains. This exhibit, which will be on display through March 2025, features an incredible collection of rare and unique historical maps that tell the story of how the American Southwest came to be navigated, understood, and exploited. It also highlights the different groups of people who have left their mark on the landscape, and in turn, how the mountains shaped their experiences. We are grateful to a local private collector for making this one-of-a-kind showing possible. Again, there are only a few short months left to see this exhibit, and this is one show you don’t want to miss.

Looking ahead, 2025 promises to be just as full of programs, fun events, and unique exhibits as always at the Telluride Historical Museum.

The fun kicks off in March with the return of our beloved Daffodil Days fundraiser in support of both the museum and the American Cancer Society. We’re also excited to announce our 2025 annual exhibit which will revolve around the history of everyone’s favorite local radio station, KOTO (see below for more details)! As the winter starts to creep towards spring, we’ll have more details on all of the fun and exciting programs and events you can expect from your museum in the coming months. In the meantime, we hope we’ll see you soon!

We are excited to announce our 2025-2026 annual exhibit will explore the 50-year history of our beloved community radio station, KOTO! Although we’re still early in the process of developing this exciting exhibit, we invite you to share any interesting stories, photos, or ephemera you might have about KOTO.
