At Second Chance Humane Society, we believe they all deserve loving homes. Yes, even dogs like Susie and Latte who arrived over a year ago under-socialized and in need of patience. Our committed staff and volunteers spent countless hours walking, playing, throwing balls, and teaching them that people are trustworthy. They are now loving, social, and smart. They will need continued training, hopefully by compassionate and experienced dog people. We believe they will be loving pets.
We believe in keeping them healthy, no matter the cost. Ringworm is a common fungus that can wreak havoc in a shelter environment. When an outbreak started in April, we took it very seriously. We closed our doors for a month, quarantined infected animals, and worked diligently to clean and sanitize the shelter. We lost over a month of adoption fees and canceled all events, but we didn’t hesitate. Our staff worked hard and kept a positive attitude until we re-opened to the public. It is that important to keep the pets in our care healthy and safe.
We believe in helping people in our communities, too. Our pet pantry helped an unprecedented number of families feed their beloved furry family members. Our thrift shops stepped up and supplied goods to those in need; including locals who lost everything in a fire and our neighbors on the Ute and Navajo reservations. We loaned funds to those who could not afford veterinary care through our voucher program.
We believe in you, our people, and our future. Most of our funding comes during the holiday season. So much depends on your generosity! Your love of animals and your contributions mean we can continue the care and compassion we provide every day!
We need your help. Our costs have skyrocketed in the past three years. Medical costs, food, surgical materials, and other costs associated with providing for innocent animals have gone up, up, up. We believe that together, we can do it.
Please give generously this holiday season so we can continue our important work.
We also believe in dogs like Maya. She’s been adopted and returned several times, due to no fault of hers. She’s basically just a puppy who needs leadership, training, and hopefully a husky-loving person to call her own.
