We are thankful for the animal lovers who work, foster, and volunteer at Second Chance. We have a dedicated and hard-working team who show up every single day to love, feed, clean, walk, play, hold, and train our dogs and cats until they find their forever homes. Rain or shine, holidays and weekends… Our people are on the job.
We are thankful for our clinic team who spays, neuters, heals, vaccinates, and treats our dogs and cats. Their work is so important to successful outcomes.
We are thankful for our event staff and volunteers. Events are a lot of work- scheduling, planning, packing, traveling, smiling, talking, and being the public face of Second Chance can be daunting. Lucky for us, our team packs up nearly every weekend to hold adoption events, fundraisers, informational events, and even fun things like kitten yoga.
We are thankful for your donations that allow us to be a compassionate shelter. We don’t euthanize for space and have had a 97% save rate over the past years. This means we are committed to work with and care for dogs and cats as long as they need us. That is expensive. Cats like Gonzo, who was in hospice care for nearly two years, living at our cat castle and bringing love and joy to our staff and volunteers. Or, dogs like Petey. A big, block-headed pit bull, he’s five years old and doesn’t like other dogs. He is a total goofball who adores people, but because of his breed, age, and size, he has been hard to place in a home.
We are thankful for our partners like Chow Down, Dirt Dawg, Murdoch’s, and Walmart help us by hosting events and donating to our pet pantry and shelter.
We can’t do this without those who donate and shop at our thrift stores and gallery. It’s an easy way to support us, whether it’s buying a new-to-you set of skis or donating a piece of art that doesn’t quite fit in your home.
Dogs Latte and Susie are thankful for patience. They came to us confused, frightened, and neglected, with no idea how to be a companion to people. Second Chance staff, volunteers, dog trainers, and veterinary staff have invested countless hours to teach these young dogs that humans are friends. They would be extra thankful if a loving, patient, committed dog person would give them a chance to live the rest of their days in a home.
Mama cats and tiny kittens are thankful for foster homes. These most vulnerable rescues are much safer and happier in a quiet home. That’s why we always try to place them with loving fosters until they are ready to be adopted.
Executive director, Nicholas Gilman is thankful for the animal-loving communities we serve. “People love animals in Colorado. Our job is so much easier when folks understand and support our work.”
November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month. Tiger Lily is a 13-year-old cat who is affectionate and loving. She has beautiful green eyes. She was surrendered to us when her person became too ill to care for her. As always, senior cat adoption fee is just $25.
