Telluride Mushroom Fest: On Parade!

Telluride Mushroom Fest: On Parade!

Everyone loves a parade, famous ones like New York’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade; Pasadena’s Rose Parade; and the Mardi Gras Parade in New Orleans. And some maybe less well known nationally such as Telluride’s own Fourth of July extravaganza, a tribute to veterans – and to Norman Rockwell.

But for no-holds-barred, laugh-out-loud fun nothing beats the Telluride Mushroom Festival’s annual happening. Town shuts down so that amanita hat-wearing, mold- and spore-worshipping fungi fanatics can strut their stuff down Main Street. This year, there was lots of drumming – and singing in the rain.

One of the eye-witnesses is photographer Lisa Barlow, whose upcoming show, titled “Holy Land U.S.A.,” opens at Slate Gray Gallery on August 26. (The book of the same name comes out in October.)
