The Town of Telluride, in partnership with EcoActionPartners, is now accepting pre-applications for Telluride Green Grants. The program supports businesses and residents in reducing their carbon footprints to help meet the goals of the Town of Telluride’s Climate Action Plan. Using 2010 as a baseline, Town is actively working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by 2030 and 95%by 2040, through energy efficiency, renewable energy, water use efficiency, and other innovative means.

Funded by the Town of Telluride and administered by EcoAction Partners, Telluride Green Grants are available to discrete non-profit, commercial, and residential projects that deliver measurable greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions for the Town’s community.

Telluride Green Grants support projects that meet the following objectives for the Town of Telluride:

• Measurably reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with the Town of Telluride community.
• Decrease energy and/or water consumption within or associated with the Town of Telluride.
• Promote waste reduction, energy efficiency, water efficiency, and renewable energy systems.
• Leverage rebates and other funding sources.
• Promote environmental and economic sustainability.
• Increase public awareness of the benefits of energy efficiency, water use efficiency, renewable energy, and GHG reduction.
• Previously awarded projects included net-zero building construction, insulation & weatherization of existing buildings, replacement of old boilers and furnaces, renewable energy installations, waste reduction projects, water efficiency or conservation projects, composting, transportation-related fuel reduction efforts, and more.

“Through Green Grants, we hope to empower local businesses and individuals to bring innovative and impactful projects that will not only mitigate environmental challenges but also foster a greener, cleaner, and more resilient town,” said Sustainability and Grant Administrator Darin Graber.

Telluride, more:

Nestled amidst the majestic San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado, Telluride’s captivating narrative is deeply rooted in the ancient legacy of the Ute tribe, the valley’s original inhabitants, who crafted their summer camps along the San Miguel River, naming the land “The Valley of Hanging Waterfalls.”

In the late 1700s, Spanish explorers traversed the rugged terrain, laying the groundwork for subsequent exploration and settlement. A fervent mining boom followed, igniting a rush of prospectors to the region, culminating in the founding of Telluride in 1880.

Telluride’s allure as a hub of opportunity attracted fortune seekers, bolstered by the arrival of the Rio Grande Southern Railroad and groundbreaking innovations like the hydroelectric power plant in Ames.

Set in a box canyon amid forested peaks at the base of the popular Telluride ski and golf resort, the town’s historic district houses landmarks like the Sheridan Opera House and the Telluride Historical Museum, while playing host to culture, music, arts, outdoor recreation, and festivals with unrivaled views and dramatic locale.
