Kittens… they’ve got those sweet little faces and fuzzy little paws. They jump, roll, hide, pounce, and are bundles of energy! In short, they are irresistible.

Adult cats, however, sometimes struggle to compete for attention and adoption with the little ones. The more mature residents at Second Chance would love to have someone visit and take them home! Maybe a kitten isn’t for you, but you’d still like the companionship of a new feline family member and would consider one of these:

We have several cats who are just over a year old, so they are still playful and kittenish, but are mature enough to enjoy sitting in the window to watch the world go by.

Tiger is one of those cats you must meet to appreciate. In photos, he is a somewhat average, short-haired tabby. He has a very forgettable name, but once you meet him, you’ll see all of his beauty and personality. He is a loving boy who gets along with other cats, craves attention, and is only 15 months old.

If you adopted both Kit Kat and Tulip, you’d have an almost-matched set of cats. They are just over a year old, tuxedos, and both have the same short hair. Kit Kat is larger, friendlier, and more confident, whereas Tulip is petite and can be shy at first. He can help her gain confidence in a new home, and he will love to sit on your shoulders and purr loudly in your ear.

More mature cats are available and are always so grateful to be adopted.

Four-year-old Pepper came to us in January and looked like a giant fluffball of hair. She was a bit nervous, but soon came around to accepting pets and being brushed. The brushing (and maybe summer) has revealed a different cat! While still beautiful and long-haired, her coat is now smoother and healthy. Pepper doesn’t like to be picked up or held, but she loves to be given attention with her feet planted on the ground.

If you like floofy cats, Amigo is your guy. He’s in a foster home because he didn’t adjust well to shelter life. His foster mom says, “Amigo is hilarious! Sliding across the tile floor to chase string or toys, somersaults… you name it, he is an acrobatic wonder. Even his adorably ineffective attempts to pounce (straight up, MAYBE an inch forward) are hilarious. Amigo is big into head butts and having his cheeks scratched, but he will politely tell you (with a gentle paw,) that he’s had enough. I can’t believe he’s 10 years old. He acts like a kitten! “

Amigo is a senior cat, who doesn’t act like it at all. He’d be best as the only pet in your home. To meet him, reach out to the shelter to arrange: (970)626-2273 or foster@secondchancehumane.org

Adoption hours are Wednesday-Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:30 pm.

AND… To continue the Second Chance Highlights section, we want to share the following:

Adoption Sponsors

Imagine this… you visit our shelter and fall in love with a dog or cat. When you finish signing the contract to adopt, you find out the fee has been sponsored!

Our long-term residents, senior pets, and owner surrendered pets are often sponsored. We don’t publicize which ones are fee-sponsored because we don’t want to encourage adoptions based on cost. We want to encourage adoptions because a pet and person have a connection.

Adoption sponsors are wonderful people who help cover fees for certain pets. We currently have over a dozen pets whose fees are partially or completely sponsored.

Visit the shelter to meet all of our adoptable pets.

If you’d like to sponsor a pet’s adoption fee, reach out to our shelter manager: shelter@secondchancehumane.org

Adoption Hours: 11-5:30 Wed-Sun.
