Following the phenomenal concert by the New York Philharmonic Brass Quintet last summer, Telluride Chamber Music is once again bringing musicians from the country’s most renowned orchestra, The New York Philharmonic, to Telluride. This concert will feature music for flute and harp, performed by Mindy Kaufman and June Han.

Flute and harp is a timeless and beautiful combination of instruments. The program will feature a traditional first half with music by J.S. Bach, Tailleferre and Cras; the second half will take the audience around the world with Spanish and tango- influenced pieces by Ibert and Piazolla and Cuban composer Vitier.

Solo piccolo and flutist Mindy Kaufman joined the New York Philharmonic in 1979. At the time, she was the youngest member of the orchestra and the 13th woman out of 106 members. Ms. Kaufman has appeared as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic under the direction of former Music Directors Zubin Mehta, Kurt Masur, and Lorin Maazel.

June Han is hailed as a “true and tasteful harpist… [with] exceptionally varied phrasing and a surprising yet innate sense of timing” by the Concert Review Magazine at her debut recital in Carnegie Hall.

Beyond  playing in the orchestra, the two musicians frequently perform chamber music together and are thrilled to be performing in Telluride for the first time.

In addition to the evening concert, Kaufman and Han will also be performing an education workshop for the students at Telluride Schools on the morning of March 1. This is a unique opportunity for the children of Telluride to learn about these instruments from world -class musicians.
