Every year, graduating high school students with a dream and who attend school in the San Miguel Watershed are eligible to apply for scholarship money to be used for college/university or other institutes of higher learning. Students from Telluride, Norwood, Paradox and Nucla high schools, as well as home-school students are invited to submit applications.

“‘The Man of La Mancha’ scholarship program is one of the most exciting things we do,” explains Elaine Demas, President of the Board of JFK. “It honors students who have unique skills, qualities and goals for their higher education. It is one of only a few scholarship programs that focus not necessarily on high school transcripts or financial need, but rather on students with big dreams. This is something that JFK’s founder Bill Carsten so wisely realized early on: dreaming big, then working hard, can get you where you want to go. Just For Kids Foundation is thrilled to continue that vision in Mr. Carsten’s honor.”

As a 501(c)3 based in San Miguel County, JFK provides essential scholarships, operating grants, program support, capital and start-up funding, and equipment to deserving youth and youth organizations within the towns of Telluride, Norwood, Nucla, Naturita, Paradox and all points in between. A special focus is placed on projects that offer leadership opportunities and/or promote self-sufficiency and responsibility.
