Organized by the San Miguel Basin Rodeo Committee and the Norwood Roping Club, the San Miguel Basin Rodeo takes place every summer at the San Miguel County Fairgrounds in Norwood, CO. And 2022 marked the event’s 117th year.

“We are so excited to be voted the most improved rodeo of the year by the Colorado Pro Rodeo Association! This honor is a great acknowledgment to all of the rodeo committee volunteers, Norwood Roping Club members and, most importantly, our sponsors who make this event possible. Over the last several years we have made much-needed improvements to the rodeo and saw record-breaking attendance in 2021 and 2022. We are extremely grateful to the community for showing us so much support. We can’t wait for another great rodeo this summer,” exclaimed Jordan Williams, chair of the San Miguel Basin Rodeo Committee.

According to Williams, the annual event in Norwood is one of the region’s most popular and exciting rodeos.

Janet Kask, Director of County Parks & Open Space, added:

“The San Miguel Basin Rodeo is rich in local history, culture and tradition and extends from generation to generation. The County hosts the Annual San Miguel Basin Rodeo at the Fairgrounds and Regional Park in Norwood each July. The County’s Parks & Open Space department obtained a Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) grant to upgrade the Outdoor Arena where the rodeo is held. Improvements included, but weren’t limited to, new footing, grading to improve drainage, and replacement of exterior fencing. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Outdoor Arena was held in July 2021 to kick-off the Annual San Miguel Basin Rodeo at that time.”

District 3 County Commissioner Kris Holstrom went on to add:

“The vision of the County’s Fairgrounds has always been to provide a safe venue while preserving our historic agricultural flavor for families and residents to grow their children, to make memories, to teach, to educate and to recreate in partnership with the community and our local user groups. Three to four generations of participants and spectators have grown up utilizing the County’s Fairgrounds and then returned with their own children.”

San Miguel County congratulates San Miguel Basin Rodeo Committee and the Norwood Roping Club for this achievement.

Building on a long tradition of horse-handling and ranching, the San Miguel Rodeo was established in 1906. The event takes place every summer in July at the San Miguel County Fairgrounds in Norwood, CO.
