Palm Arts Dance will bring holiday cheer to the Palm stage this weekend with the annual December production this Saturday at 6pm and Sunday at 2pm. “Holiday in the Big Apple” is a vibrant tour set in famous New York locations showcasing dance styles one might see on holiday in the city.
Artistic Director Nicole Hattler and Assistant Artistic Director Kelsey Trottier are super excited to bring all the dance genres taught at the studio to life, from Fairytale ballet to Tap, to Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Integrative, Ballet and Pointe.
“This is a particularly fun performance to create because each class really has the opportunity to take the audience on their own special journey,” said Hattler.
The audience will be whisked away to popular spots such as Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Broadway, even the NYC subway.
“Riding the subway is such an iconic experience when you are in New York. Translating these ideas into movement has been an assignment our dancers have fully embraced,” Trottier explains.
The final stop will be at Lincoln Center where the second half of the performance will be dedicated to a condensed version of “The Sleeping Beauty” Ballet.
“This is a work that I have looked forward to setting for a very long time. The audience will be treated to wonderful young dancers dressed in colorful tutus performing to Tchaikovsky’s beautiful score.”
Charlotte Welborn, 16, will dance as Aurora and Joe Galbo, 16, will portray the Prince.
“We are so excited to bring another student-danced pas de deux to the stage. Their dedication and level of difficulty will be admired by all,” Hattler says.
Again, this family-friendly performance will showcase over 90 local dancers, with choreography by Hattler, Trottier, Jessica Galbo, Dakota Passero and Shannon Westveer.
