Telluride Science: Big Community Party at The Depot; Renovations Start Soon!

Telluride Science hosted a community gathering at the Depot on Friday, September 30 to celebrate the rich history of the iconic building and toast its future as the Telluride Science and Innovation Center. The celebration was free and open to the public with live music by the Hush Pups, food, and libations.

Telluride Science has reached about 60 percent of its $12 million fundraising goal, with an additional $4 million needed to cover the cost of renovations. To learn more about the Depot project and ways to support it, contact Annie Carlson at annie@telluridescience.org.

The historic Depot, future home of Telluride Science. Renovations start October 10.

Telluride Science hosted its first ever Community Celebration at the Depot. Approximately 150 people attended and enjoyed free food, live music, libations and, of course, tales about the building’s storied history.

The celebration was the last hurrah at the venue before renovations begin to transform the landmark into the Telluride Science & Innovation Center. After nearly 40 years of operating out of the local schools during the summer, the organization is very happy to have a year-round home. A permanent address should enable the nonprofit to make an even greater impact that it already has on the advancement of science and technology.

The newly renovated building will make its debut in Summer 2024 and will be available to rent for private events, parties and gatherings when not in use by the scientists.

“The Depot has served as a connection to the outside world since 1891 when it was a hub for the Rio Grande Southern Railway. Back then, precious metals were exported from Telluride,” said Mark Kozak, Executive Director of Telluride Science. “With this project, it will be a community focal point once again, but this time we will be exporting ideas and innovation.”
