Mark your calendars! Next Thursday, October 20th at 5pm join Telluride Arts, in collaboration with EcoAction Partners and the Town of Telluride, at the Transfer Warehouse for a celebration of the Free Box and the newly installed Free Box truck art-wrap.

The event will include live music from local band Lavalanche, as well as a Free Box Costume Contest! Come dressed in your most extravagant Free Box finds, or try on and take home new items that will be loaded into the flatbed of the Free Box truck and parked inside the Warehouse walls!

The Telluride Free Box, on the corner of Pine and Main Street is the Town’s center for anonymous gifting. It is a staple in the Telluride community — but the Free Box would not be possible without the Free Box Truck, the wheels behind the operation. Last winter, Telluride Arts organized an open call to artists to cover the Free Box truck with a mobile, vinyl-wrap installation bringing art to the streets! Andrew Dines’ geometric and colorful design was selected by a committee made up of local artists and town staff.

The idea for this celebration started with the new truck-wrap and grew from there! Serendipitously, EcoAction Partners has been working on developing new textile recycling initiatives with the Free Box. “This event seemed like an obvious collaboration opportunity,” said Austin Halpern, Programs Director at Telluride Arts.

A joint statement from EcoAction Partners says, “We encourage anyone who wants to support textile recycling in our region to attend the event, discuss with us about the various barriers facing this textile recycling initiative, and brainstorm how we can successfully recycle our textiles as a role model for other small mountain communities.”

EcoAction Partners is a sustainability non-profit serving San Miguel and Ouray County. The organization focuses on energy and waste mitigation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The organization has various programs including the Green Business Program, which provides resources on anything from LED upgrades, to financing and implementing building renovations, such as insulation, weatherization, and more.
