From July 2-31, Telluride Arts HQ Gallery is featuring “The Beauty of Imperfections: By Rebecca Mcfarland.” The Art Walk opening reception will be held on Thursday, July 7th, 5-8pm, at Telluride Arts HQ Gallery, 220 W Colorado Avenue. Live music by Warren Gilbreath and small bites will be available. The gallery is open most days from 12-6pm or by appointment.

Rebecca McFarland is a self-taught, mixed-media artist. Her work focuses on the biographies of women. The experience of the feminine is expressed through the layering of paper and paint. The process is the same for every portrait, however, each depiction is a particular woman—every covering, every scratch, every flaw an expression of that woman’s complicated psyche.

Nia, by Rebecca McFarland.

Rebecca writes: “I’m interested in what we reveal to each other and what we keep as privileged information—the layers we cover ourselves with to hold our secrets. I want the worn down bits to show, the broken parts. I want my women to remove their social masks and confess their deepest woes. Ultimately, I’m a storyteller; my passion is the story of women”

Note: For in this exhibition, Rebecca created an additional series of small portraits made entirely from recycled materials. Proceeds from those sales will benefit the Transfer Warehouse restoration project.
